2001 Vintage. Medium bodied, light nose, cherry with smoke and plum. Complex. An interesting wine!

Reminds me of an aged Barolo. Still got plenty of life on it; at least another ten. Cigar box, dried cherries and pomegranates. Tar, wood chips, and grape seeds. A little less viscous, but exceptionally well-developed.

Vivid cigar box aromatics and well integrated brett. Mineral rich black cherry/cranberry/plum fruit, silky tannins, complex mushroom overtones on the finish. Full of vitality. 28 months in mostly american oak, a modest duration for gran reserva, which may attribute to its deep color after 14 years.

This was Decanter's 2013 Wine of the Year. Came across it fairly hidden at a local wine shop in town and got it for $40. Figured why not!

At 16yrs old, the color is still extremely ruby shaded. Don't really see any bricking around the edges. Floral nose of cherries, and a dirty/dusty element to it. Fairly thin at the front of the palate, but it has a nice weight in the middle and the finish is holding strong. Black peppercorn, faint leather taste and a rush of tart cherries. Reminds me of a 5-7yr old Sonoma Pinot. This is still "juicy", which to me is less in your face than "jammy". Fruit is giving way to secondary notes. Not WOTY for me, but for $40, a nice find.

Update: Much better after 45mins as well as at cellar temp.

This is a wine that must be decanted. Excellent wine after it opens up after one hour

Clear medium ruby robe. Clean pronounced nose of leather, meat, spice , mushroom, macerated strawberries, caramel and oak. Dry palate with medium acidity and body but medium + tannins. Flavors of pipe tobacco, licorice, dried cherries, bay leaf and wet soil. Complex flavors. Drinks like a meal. It will make you hungry. Should be great with aged manchego. Prob large American oak barrel aged.

Strong new American oak, lively acidity, prominent Brett gamey notes, wine of the year ? (decanter mag 2013) um...no. But great nonetheless
