Winner of the most obnoxious wax job this year. And to boot, adding a pull tab?
I was expecting better things from this wine. To me, it wasn't appreciably different from Meomi. If I had paid the same as Meomi, I'd be singing a different tune. But the #QPR is poor here.
You can tell a mile away that this is a Wagner family wine. There is the over extraction and sweet vanilla oak that dominates. I really thought with Pinot Noir things would be different. Now I'm thinking that they really only know how to make one style of wine and bending the grapes to fit the style. That, or they're just adding the Mega Purple to everything. — 7 years ago
Barnyard worn and matured leather aromas so delicious and intoxicating. Raspberry and soft black berry flavors with an extremely smooth finish, very little acid. So quaffable, but that nose....mmmmmm....not pictured is the 2010 by its side, same kind of thing with a stronger taste to it and just a bit more bright balance. — 9 years ago
Pretty beautiful, especially after being open an hour. Great foil for roast turkey! — 9 years ago
1968 Vega-Sicilian "Unico"
I have not tasted many wines from Ribera that are of this age. For my birth year - 1968 - I have spent most of my celebrations tasting Rioja - 1968 is a fantastic Rioja vintage. I estimated at 68 would also be fantastic for Ribera (at $300 plus per bottle this was a big bet). The color is spectacular at 46 years; this particular bottle was in exceptional condition. The nose is detailed with bouquet of mediterranean olive, peppercorn, smoked ham and baking spices. A time capsule. In Rioja the wines finish with wonderful seems of acidity, stone, winemaking style and terroir - in this Ribera the wine does not finish with the same punctuation but finishes with an elegance and refinement that speaks to the greatness of this wine but was probably better a decade ago. 91-points for this bottle. — 10 years ago
51% cab 49% Shiraz. It's a baby grange made from grape that don't make ultra hard and expensive grange classification and uses same barrels. Very rich stewed fruits and notes of blackberry and raspberry. Smooth and complex with outstanding finish and overall taste. — 11 years ago
Garnet color with a slight orange rim. Nose of lead pencil, dried herbs, soil and red cherries, with a hint of green peppers. Medium+ body, complex palate with the same flavors, and long finish. This softened considerably in the glass over the evening. Great wine. — 6 years ago
Nice aromas of fresh baked cherry pie. A big but elegant Cabernet Sauvignon that delivers power and elegance at the same time. Great flavors of blueberries, baking spices, mocha and smoke with a very slight hint of eucalyptus. Very nicely structured with silky smooth tannins. A great bottle of wine. — 7 years ago
1982 Chateau Latour Bordeaux. V Day surprise dinner at Gary D. K thought we should have decanted an hour earlier, instead of when we sat at the table. He didn't like this particular bottle as much as others from the same case. Thought it was very tight and young still, though it opened up considerably in the glass and as the night progressed. Not as much fruit as he had anticipated. — 7 years ago
The sister property of Haut-Brion and a wine many consider an unofficial 1st Growth, La Mission was firing on all cylinders this night. The 2000 nose was classic, showing the signature Graves scorched Earth, ripe currants, creme de cassis, and roasted coffee beans. The palate built around a core of earth and rock, with a structured and textural powerhouse that relents in the glass as you taste it further, unwrapping the aroma and flavor kaleidoscope slowly and keeping you coming back for more.
The 2005 was more of the same but on another level of density and strength being a younger wine and also from an excellent vintage worthy of at least 5 -7 more years before I would go at it again. The nose hinted to a deep future, with the palate clamping down and not showing any signs of relenting that night.

Stunning, varietally visible and perfectly mature, with bay leaves, cracked black peppers, cloves, red and black fruits, all on the same ballpark. Very pretty in its feminine appearance, this is truly sexy stuff. — 9 years ago
Everything the same except for Sulfur, both delicious but sans soufre was alive — 9 years ago
Excellent, fig and plum on nose somewhat the same on taste with some dried fruits. — 10 years ago
It's the ultimate food wine. Goes with everything. But at the same time, it is too much the chameleon. If it was to be drunk by itself, there isn't a dominant note to define the wine. — 10 years ago
The aromas from this wine drift across the room. Leather, tobacco, coffee, smooth red fruit. On the palate, great complexity with the same tone as the nose, with tobacco sticking around longer on the finish. Great wine. — 6 years ago
Quite backward and austere version of quilceda. Blac fruit and stoney on the nose. In the month its the same more wet stone with peppery notes. This wine needs a few more years to come around if ever. — 6 years ago
Much needed pick me up. It's light and heavy and the same time. Light gives it that fun feeling; heavy gives it that flavor — 7 years ago
This Champagne was disgorged 10-1013. The Bollinger Granda Année never disappoints! She is the quite beauty in the black dress with the grey pearls, intriguing, complex, soft. Has a lovely floral, pair, green apple nose, the mousse is fine, precise, the flavors posses same complexity as the nose, it is crisp, far from austere finish. — 7 years ago
Ruby color of med. minus intensity with amber towards rim. Damp earth, dried cherry and dried dark fruit nose. Same flavors plus a little mineral / iron? Med. body. Pleasant mouthfeel with. Medium minus acid. Subtle dark dried fruit and damp earth blending into a long finish. Great! — 8 years ago
Way more easily drinkable than expected. Very smooth and complex at the same time. Yet still light and fruity. Was awesome on its own. — 8 years ago
Opened up two bottles tonight of the Twomey both 2010 bought same day same store, I had stored each next to each other ones cork was brilliant blood red the other a dark garnet purple... More perfumed and delicate than the geyserville of the same vintage. Still, ruddy delicious. — 9 years ago

This same friend brought an “interim” bottle while we decanted the latour. A 2000 Margaux split. We didn’t decant just opened and poured- hey don’t argue when it ain’t your wine- it was epic. If I owned this bottle I’m not sure I could keep my hands off of it. I’m sure it will last years but this thing was in a perfect spot. All the red and dark fruit you could want with power and finesse in balance. Yes I’m a very lucky man — 5 years ago
