Damn this is good . Elegant bright fruit, but with a mid palate punch of earth. Good tannic structure. — a day ago

Bodegas Benjamin de Rothschild-Vega Sicilia

Macán Clásico Rioja Tempranillo 2015

This is very rustic and austere Rioja. Dark purple color. Good nose with with red fruit, leather, cedar, and cassis. On the pallet the fruit is dialed way down, and the oak and earthy flavors dominate. It is full bodied, high alcohol, with medium plus acidity and a dry medium tannic finish. IMHO it lacks integration but very drinkable and will punch you in the face again and again. Very powerful wine. — a month ago

Domaine de la Mordorée

La Dame Rousse Tavel Rosé Blend 2020

Star bright vibrant pink. A bit paler than I’m used to with Tavel. Medium full palate or ripe strawberry, earthy cherry, and stern mineral. Medium plus acidity. No tannins but a decidedly tannin-esque mouthfeel. Medium finish. 2020 was a superb growing season in southern France and this Tavel is a spectacular example of the effects of that vintage. Pale as it is, it still delivers that distinctly Tavel punch on the nose and palate that makes it an excellent wine for a wide range of foods. Take it to your Thanksgiving table for a stellar T-Day pairing. Drink now or hold through 2030 for a classic Tavel experience. — 9 days ago

Barolo Nebbiolo 2016

Costco, $20

My first Barolo, reviewing a few days later so can't remember exactly how much I liked it. Nose was a bit hot with cherry, rose, and a slight bitterness. Complex and beautiful, cherry and maybe cranberry, floral, tar, started with some bretty farmland funk but dissipated a bit after breathing. Good acidity but a little hard to tell underneath the tannins that punch you in the face that I knew to look out for. Quite enjoyed it, looking forward to trying more Barolo!
