Pretty deep colour , very narrow garnet rim . Very young looking . Quite concentrated meaty and ripe cassis fruit , dry spices . On the palate fruit concentrated also , with touch of dry noticeable tannin and high acidity . Cassis , tobacco , ripe blackberry and cherry . Slightly severe finish . With more time , becomes more mineral , grafite note , ripe cassis . Saline tinge on the finish . Needs time in decanter to properly integrate and open , though when it does it shows great balance and poise, lots of upside still. — 10 months ago
Quite light ruby , wide light ruby rim . Rose and strawberry, raspberry, red cherry scented, slight hint of anis and fresh herbs. In the mouth nice sweet red fruits , cherry and strawberry , that touch of anis again . Pretty refreshing acidity , quite fine but noticeable tannins . Reasonable length and overall nicely balanced . This benefitted from a bit of air , and though young was a good match with a rather simple pasta with Bolognese sauce. This is good from now (with food and time in the decanter ) though will offer good drinking over the next 3-5 years . A nice and well made Langhe Nebbiolo.

Pretty deep colour with very little bricking . Pretty deep cassis , black fruit nose , touch of truffle , grafite . Lovely red and dark fruits , great acidity , ripe slightly gritty tannins , long slightly slate and grafite finish . Young still , better with time in the decanter and will be better still in 5-10 years and will last a further 10. — 10 months ago
Got a great deal on 6 pack of these two Bordeaux greats. Both got scores of 99, but the range of scores was pretty wide for both as well. I know I have to lay them down for 10 years+ but I wanted to try both for a baseline.
The Palmer is showing a lot more than the Ducru. It’s very enjoyable now! Nose is fantastic if a touch muted but still get nice cedar, black cherry, hint of floral, and something herbal. The palate is slate, cherry, blackberry, and currant. Not muted or closed in the least, but the slate thing overlays the fruit. Does that make sense? Help me describe that.
All in all I love this wine. Can’t hardly wait for 10 years from now. Guessing I won’t! — a year ago
Light straw colour . Pretty mineral and focused on the palate . Linear with lemon oil , touch of brioche and white flowers . Quite intense on the palate with real focus , very fresh acidity but with enough body to cover . This tastes very young really and probably needs more time to be at peak . Wait another 5 years perhaps and will probably last another 10-15 — 4 months ago
Pretty deep ruby narrow ruby /garnet rim . Quite austere at first , dark dusty mineral tinged , grafite, charcoal , touch of oak spice . On the palate quite austere , mineral and grafite tinged dark fruits . Good balancing acidity , quite grippy tannins . Long finish . Young still needs time . Well balanced and refreshing . — 10 months ago
Over the last few years, I’ve grown quite fond of Raul Pérez’s wines. The challenge is, some of them can be rather elusive. “La Penitencia” is one of those wines. So I was pretty excited to try this. Popped and poured; consumed over three days. Wine pours deep ruby bordering purple and slightly turbid with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity. There does appear to be a small amount of fine sediment clinging to the side of the glass. On the nose, the wine is intense. There’s obvious presence of VA and overall, comes across natty; more than any other Raul Pérez wine I’ve had before. That being said, it is remarkably fresh with notes of cherry and blackberry; the pits, seeds, stems and all. There’s also spices, cinder block, and un-excavated basement. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+, bordering on high acid. Again, bright red and dark fruits along with pomegranate, grapefruit, and basil. The finish is a touch mousey with a biscuity sort of thing happening but it’s tolerable and I’m pretty sensitive. This would be too wild for many. Reminds me a bit of Fabio Gea’s “Onde Gravitational”. Plenty of life ahead for these. As it stands, I have another bottle and I won’t be in any particular rush to drink it. Lovely stuff. — 2 years ago

Outstanding! Dark fruit(s)…Black Tea…Smoked Meats…Charcoal…And?…way too young to really tell. But, one thing is for sure..a definite cellar addition. — a month ago
