FL Terre Siciliane Frappato 2016

Almost Nebbiolo like in the glass, minus the crazy tannins. Lots of turned earth, crunchy strawberries, raspberries, tar, dry, very nice acidity. Such a beauty with spaghetti and meatballs. Arianna is making some seriously delicious and expressive stuff! — 4 years ago

Château La Grange

Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Even after two hours of decanting the wine was still tight. Medium minus acidity followed cassis and plum. Tannins were still firm. Even though an off vintage this wine needs more time in the bottle to be fully enjoyed. — 7 years ago

Pieropan

Soave Classico Garganega 2016

Lemon in colour. Notes of almond, citrus and apricot. The blend is 85% Garganega and 15% Trebbiano di Soave. The latter grape gives a more luscious feel on the palate than you would expect showing peach, ripe apple and mineral. Has filled out nicely since its youth. A lovely wine at its peak with medium minus acid. — 4 years ago

Four Brothers Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015

Tart red fruit nose of raspberry, cranberry, and cherry. Bright cherry, on the palate with cranberry, rhubarb, fresh blackberry, and white pepper. Medium minus tannins, medium alcohol, and high acid. A smooth, medium bodied pinot that matched grilled salmon perfectly. — 4 years ago

Wow!! Simply awesome. 1hr+ decant. Dark purple color. Nose of tar and baking spices. Velvet on the palate and chewy. Nice fruit with earth and refinement throughout. Medium plus depth. Medium minus finish is the only fault. Wish I bought more @ $45!! 96.5 but rounding up. Glad I have two more bottles!! — 3 years ago

Château de Beaucastel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc White Rhone Blend 2016

See previous notes - just an outstanding CdP white comprising 80% Roussanne, 15% Grenache Blanc and a few other varieties. Lovely aromatics of musk, apricot and pear. The palate is rich without being heavy - a note of mandarin. Medium minus acid. Just delicious - finding yourself reaching for another glass. Easter Sunday aperitif. — 4 years ago

Clonakilla

Canberra District Riesling 2010

Mid Lemon in colour. More Lime juice than the recently tasted Crawford River. A slight paraffin note also. On the palate lime and grapefruit of medium plus intensity with medium minus acidity. The merest hint of stone fruit. Cruising at 10 years of age and could go on for a couple more years. My last one from 2010. — 4 years ago

Domaine A. et P. de Villaine

Bouzeron Aligoté 2013

Made from the other White Burgundy grape, Aligote. Made by probably the most famous name in Burgundy, Aubert de Villaine and his American born wife, Pamela. Aubert is the wine director and proprietor of the Domaine de la Romanee Conti. This is his own personal project. The wine itself:- Mid lemon in colour. Herbs, citrus and a touch of aniseed on the nose. The palate is very citric and mineral with a noticeable saline note. More palate weight than it had a few years ago. Medium minus Acid. Drinking well now and no need to cellar any further. Great winemaking at an affordable price. — 5 years ago

Boulevard Brewing Company

Smokestack Series Dark Truth Stout

Baby, it’s cold outside. Falling near 70! The stouts are out! This sleek black beauty has it all! Thick, even lacing in two tone cafe shades, a cumulus attitude. Clean almond and cacao pod with a lemon pith aura. Bee pollen, waterfall rocks and northern oyster shell, including a light brine. Medium mouthfeel and soft minerality prevailas sips reduce the lace to alphabet soup fonts and ultimately horror forests. Unexpectedly clean, with coffee-cola notes and caramelized onion minus the burn. Crispy vanilla that turns creamy with agitation. Steely, smoky, pepper crackers, and bitter violets. #boulevardbrewing #darktruth #kcbeer #stout #dankdark — 7 years ago
