I’m a sucker for Raffault’s wines and this rarity is no exception. Made from a single old vine parcel in the Picasses vineyard, this wine is aged in 500 litre (1-5 year old) barrels instead of the large foudres used for Picasses.
Dynamite wine with more (but still restrained) oak use. Would love to get my hands on more of this and lay it down as it’s still super true to the house style. Wild and ageworthy! — 3 years ago
The 2018 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru sees no new oak and is aged instead in one and two-year-old 350-litre barrels. It has a gorgeous bouquet with lemon curd, nectarine and crushed rock aromas, very seductive even at this premature stage. The palate is well balanced with a saline entry, fresh and crisp with an almost graphite tinged finish. So much nervosité is coiled up in this Bâtard - it will give 20-30 years of drinking pleasure. 2018 vintage. Great as always. Lime, white peach, nectarine, pineapple, papaya, guava, white flowers. Good textbook Kabinett. All hail the litre bottle! — 7 years ago
At the Downs Club Magnum Christmas Dinner. In this case me holding a 6 Litre Methuselah or Imperial as it is also known of Eldertons Best Cuvée - the Command Shiraz. A very generous gift from Cameron Ashmead of the Ashmead Family , the owners of Elderton for the support and business from the Club. Barossa Valley royalty was mentioned in a previous note and it applies here in spades. Rich dark chocolate and earthy berry aromas. A flat out delicious palate with soft resolved tannins and oak influence judiciously used. Will live for years particularly in an Imperial. A treat to taste this - thanks again Cameron. — 8 years ago

Delectable - this is a new cuvée for Yarra Yering known as Amphora. Fermented in a 500 litre clayware Amphora. The final Shiraz Cabernet blend was 60/40. Sarah found the Cabernet component from the Amphora was less leafy. The whole amphora exercise was mainly an experiment. Not sure if she will continue with this in future years. — 2 years ago
Something different - a pear cider from Normandy produced from pear trees estimated to be about 300 years old. Poire Granit had 25 to 50 grams of sugar per litre yet it doesn’t taste particularly sweet. The nose and palate are nothing more complex than pear juice with a slight effervescent bubble. Very refreshing and only 6% ABV. I bought 2 other Cuvées from Eric Bordelet - one had zero ABV. Had a 2nd bottle 21 weeks later on 3rd January 2023 with consistent notes. Refreshing, tasty and uncomplicated. — 4 years ago

The winery is the only one situated on the Cartizze Hill.
They only make Valdobbiadene Docg and Cartizze Docg.
Manula harvesting is the only option on these slopes, not like they do on the flatland of the Prosecco DOC.
That results in an intense and unique expression for every label, but we reach the epitome with Her Majesty Cartizze.
The only Cru around here.
The traditional Dry version(24 g sugar per litre) is absolutely textural and balanced by the mineral finish that hides completely the sweetness that you would expect.
Extremely long.
This is prosecco on steroids(does that sound good or bad??)
Excellent drop!! — 9 months ago
Medium deep ruby , quite narrow ruby rim . Quite a lot of ripe red fruits , blueberry , strawberry jam , dark cherry and spice . Quite round and sweet fruited on the palate , cherry jam , strawberry , raspberry and dried spice . Ok acidity and ok length, just balanced alcohol , quite fine sweet tannins . Would be difficult to put this in Bordeaux ! Drink now and over the next 7 - 10 years . From 3 litre. — 2 years ago

Smooth with a dry fruity finish. Has 10g of sugar per litre but doesn’t taste like it — 5 years ago
Enjoyable wine great for drinking by itself. Normally 17.95 at LCBO got it for 12.40 25 g per litre — 6 years ago
Smoky Peaty and spirity aromas Also Iodine and Briny notes showing its maritime location. A single malt matured in charred oak casks. There is some conjecture as to whether Talisker is classified as Island or Islay but suffice to say it is the only Distillery on the Isle of Skye. Had a tour of Talisker many years ago after going to the HQ of the MacDonald Clan on Skye. I bought this 1 Litre bottle at Gatwick Airport about 2 months ago before we headed up to Inverness and the Highlands. — 7 years ago
