Lemon Hill

Pritchard Hill Estate Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

This has stood still. Exemplary in terms of presentation. Precise and laser focused macerated cherries with hints of espresso beans. Deftly balanced on the mid palate. Grainy tannins with hints of maple syrup bringing up the rear. Outstanding. — 5 months ago

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 2004

Absolutely on fire with lemon zest and acidity, ripe fruit, a finish that echoes. Used to be the value grand cru white. This still has the Premier Cru strip label. — 5 months ago

Domaine François Raveneau

Montée de Tonnerre Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 1988

Cork broke in half (actually 6-7 pieces), initially some “old cork” flavors show through, yet after 5 minutes in the glass those dissipate and we’re left with a lovely aged Raveneau with mature fruit, some lemon and mineral notes as well, very nice complexity and length, I’ve always been very lucky aging my Raveneau, this is clearly a success (shaky cork notwithstanding)! — 5 months ago

Wow! So cool. I have ZERO experience with Raveneau and ZERO Raveneaus in my cellar. ☹️ so your advice is purely of a hypothetical nature for me. (I’ve been lucky enough to have a few Dauvissats, however.) Did you use a Durand corkscrew? I use that with any 20 year or older bottle. Essential.

@Tom Casagrande, I did not, but the cork broke into so many pieces that I don’t think what cork puller I used mattered (shrug)!

St Innocent Winery

Temperance Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021

Really impressed.
St. Innocent’s consistency of style lets terroir shine through their single vineyard series. Like a controlled experiment. 2021 Temperance Hill shows incredible levels of complexity and spice, while maintaining a great degree of balance and approachability. Put simply, it tastes great.

I haven’t had a chance to taste 2021 Momtazi, but this wine has similar levels of depth to prior vintages if memory serves, while being more easily appealing. I’ve tired 2021 Shea, but not side-by-side with this. While the Shea is an excellent wine, for my taste this is more expressive and interesting.

Taittinger

Comtes de Champagne Grand Crus Brut Blanc de Blancs 2006

Aromas of lemon zest, white peach, and chalky minerality are layered with hints of toasted brioche and hazelnut. On the palate, vibrant acidity with a creamy, seamless texture. The finish is long and precise. A confident elegance. This bottle makes you yell , “Why don’t I own magnums?” — 5 months ago

Agree, Mags on Champagne are different than 750, maybe a dose of grandeur, and maybe some producers (Pierre Peters) have been known to dosage the 750/1500 ml proportionally different, but Taittinger to my knowledge is straight. A favorite in our house as well, we tasted the 2006 initially on premise at the Domaine, a wonderful experience that I'll encourage to anyone in the area.

Rutherford Hill

Napa Valley Merlot 2021

The Rutherford Hill Napa Merlot (2021) reveals a deep ruby core with subtle garnet reflections, suggesting youthful vibrancy with potential for short-term development. The nose is precise and layered, offering blackberry and raspberry fruit interwoven with cedar nuances, indicative of measured oak influence.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, with light acidity that enlivens the fruit profile while maintaining balance.

Tannins are fine-grained and unobtrusive, supporting a bright structural framework that lends clarity and poise.

The finish is clean and persistent, marked by freshness rather than weight, making this a versatile companion to dishes such as roasted chicken, grilled salmon, or semi-hard cheeses.
