Kobayashi’s inaugural sparkler with flor from Anselme Selosse. Disgorged 2025; 0g/l dosage; 100% Pinot noir; own rooted vines from 1973.

I am both a fan of Travis and Mario the people, as well as the product they put out (all Kobayashi wines). As a Selosse fan (and also a sparkling wine fan) this was high on my radar to try soon and I was able to wait about 9months since I received it before I opened. Looking forward to more iterations to come.

This wine went through two phases. Initially it came across like a Cremant Bourgogne with nice crystalline citrus fruit upfront with a bit of a hollow mid-palate and then a clean but simple finish. I set it aside for a bit and came back thirty mins later to what was more akin to a white burg with bubbles. The palate fleshed out with the fruit showing added layers (spiced apple and white peach), much more depth in the middle (honeyed citrus, sea salt) while the finish was delicate and clean. I don’t get any Selosse influence from a taste profile, but I do get the Selosse mindset of making a white wine first. For my tastes, this is an example where even 1-2g/l dosage could do wonders from a texture and broad shoulders standpoint to lengthen it out. That being said, I understand the goal for Travis to highlight site and purity. If opening soon, give it some air to wake up. Fun. — 2 months ago

Opened for a buddy’s birthday, alongside a 2005 Tatty Comtes, 2015 Cristal, 2018 Realm Falstaff and 2023 Kobayashi M/R.

I still remember my first Allemand seven years ago and how it immediately reeled me in and every bottle since has been the exact same. The rusticity and feral nature of Cornas is why for me, as a Syrah fanboy, it’s the best and most pure region for this wonderful grape.

Removed cork about an hour before pouring. Initial notes of olive, black pepper spice and herbs, some smoked meat and a brief blood-orange citrus aromatic. Deep red/black in the glass. There’s a layer of brett (low level, adds to the intrigue, doesn’t detract) and lavender bouquet before peppered strip, herbs, raspberries and blackberries, and a sanguine tang hit the palate. Not sure of whole cluster use here but seems there’s a little bit (which I love). Wild but civilized. Medium-plus bodied with beautiful acidity and plenty of tannin for this to cruise years. On the early side, but these are so hard to resist in every phase.

I wish I could drink this every day. I need to find a wine of similar style at a better price point. — 7 months ago

Exceptionally well-done. This actually has some notes of the Kobayashi I drank recently, although this had more alcohol. The wine had some smooth, grippy tannins (more than I recall from last time) — maybe I didn’t stand the bottle upright early enough (the winemaker calls for one week). I didn’t observe that. This wine gets better with air, winemaker calls for three hours. Best drunk cool. This is 63% petite syrah, 22.1% mourvèdre, 11.5% graciano and 3.4% viognier. 16.0% ABV, 98 points Robert Parker. $250. — 3 years ago

Very interesting wine.. I don’t know if I was blinded on this if I would ever pick those Washington except for maybe a tiny bit on the back end.
Great color and I actually really enjoy the aromatics on it.
The pallet to me is very interesting. It almost tastes like if you put free run juice into a tank and then let it settle in tank for a couple days and then just bottle that.. — 8 months ago

Not on purpose, but here we are at post 3,000. Love the community and hope @Delectable Wine will invest in proper attention/maintenance moving forward.

Enjoyed next to the 2020 Kobayashi Viognier (if you aren’t on the list, join now or forever hold your peace). I’ll review at a later date, but my goodness do I love their wines.

For me, this falls in between 2016 (more truffle and savory vibe) and 2018 (tropical and creamy) perfectly. The 2016 seems to really want a decant, and while this would have potentially been a bit more open, it was ready to party at pop. 38 roussanne/ 31 petit manseng/ 18 chard/9 Viognier/4 Muscat. Straw, almost gold in the glass. There’s a lemon cream note initially before it turns more spiced pear and truffle honey. Texturally divine. The roussanne really sizzles on the palate showing orange blossom and roasted cashews. Chard and Viognier work well together as the finish melts away (in a good way) with vanilla mint. This is another delicious SQN white, and one that will do just fine in your cellar for another 3-5yrs. — 3 years ago
