Les Vignes Denses Santenay Chardonnay 2019

The highest rating I have ever given a wine. — a year ago

Les Gravières Santenay 1er Cru Chardonnay 2018

Ahh very young. Tart, high toned and steely, chablisien without the chalky minerals, well done oak that will integrate. Prominent SO2. Better on day 2-3 now, when some tropical notes emerge on the nose. Needs way more time. — 2 years ago

Les Bretterins Auxey-Duresses Chardonnay 2017

Another nice wine from this producer, fresh, clearly some whole clusters, nothing too complex but well made. — 2 years ago

Jean-Jacques Morel

Saint-Aubin Pinot Noir 2015

An unbelievably truthful, strange bottle of wine.

Nose is this crazy blend of cherries, sour cherries, library books. As it opens this psychotic crazy burgundy smell.

Palate has this odd little bit of spritz. Vibrantly deep cherries. Intense palate vivacity.

As this opens … this … silky, luscious cherry raspberry something or other that is great burgundy. Jesus. Omg.

Long clingy finish.

From the genius that is JJ Morel.

Bought from fass selections.

Brut Famille Vincent Crémant de Bourgogne Chardonnay

This crisp dry sparkler, made with Chardonnay, had pale lemon color with aromas of stone fruits and floral scents. On the palate flavors of apple and pear with hints of citrus. Medium+ finish ending with fruit and slight yeasty mineral notes. Good value. Drink now! — 2 years ago

I love when Morel is on and boy is this on. Nose is wooly and hickory based. Sweet acacia as well. Lanolin and lemon flesh and gorgeous mineral. Palate rich, energetic and bracing. Compact and deep with crazy linearity and focus. Like a laser. So clean. This needs air as it is JJ Morel but out of the gates it’s wonderful. So juicy and engaging. Amazing sap. Now with air you get that wet earth thing that is so clear. — 10 months ago

Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard

Clos du Roi 1er Cru Beaune Pinot Noir 2017

Lyle Fass
9.4

Needed something a bit more predictable after that Overnoy. Step right up JJ Girard. Maddeningly consistent. Love this version of a great 1er Cru. Global warming is helping Beaune 1er Crus.

Nose is tight but has lovely spice, dark flowers and black cherries. This is such a serious 1er Cru. Wispy sour cherry, herbs. Super complex and opening by the minute. Fruit filling in big time. Sour cherry, dark cherries, early season cherries. Brambly now. So pretty and deep. Perfect hint of framing oak. Girard is so good. Palate is just gorgeous. Young but awesome. Showing some wood but huge sap, density and really fresh. Girard is always invigorating. Good concentration and really black fruited palate. Black cherries and they are so clear. Long palate staining finish. Persistent. So juicy and with such a serious structure. Plus that just maddeningly consistently delicious Girard fruit.

Premier Cru Les Cras Meursault Chardonnay 2011

Mineral, acidity and woody. Paired nicely with scallops! Even with the mushroom variety of the dish! Funny, the wine seems closer to a Chablis then a Meursault….. — 3 years ago
