Another epic Fichots from Girard. Deep deep mid to late season cherry and glorious spice. Wow the fruit in 22 is so aromatically expressive at the moment. Just gorgeous. Stunning palate with deep deep fruit but also those fierce Fichot tannins. Juicy, silky and sweet but structured and epic. Wow the tannins. This needs mega air but this is a monumental Fichots. Tasting today and still a beast but has that absurd 22 fruit. I’d wait a decade at least. — a year ago

Disg. 2/14 (07 base)…Always my favorite of the Lieux-Dits and without question one of the very best Blanc de Blancs Champagnes on the planet, it’s particularly special to have with some bottle age. It’s absolutely as stunning as hoped—rich and powerful with crazy depth to its layers with a deep, complex core of caramelized orchard fruit, roasted nuts, old rum barrels and candied white flowers, all with seamless integration. The palate is generous and detailed, with racy acids, waves of saline laced, chalky Le Mesnil minerals and a finish that just stays with you. A BdB benchmark, legendary bubbles. — 8 months ago

All about the back-end white pepper/white sage/subtle clove spice rack finish. Excellent, lingering finish tickling different parts of the palate. The first “ah ha” Selosse wine for me many years ago. The south facing La Côte Faron is particularly “Selossien” and therefore particularly singular, with its oxidative complexity, textural richness and generous sun kissed ripe fruit expression. Like all Selosse wines, it’s layered and particularly aromatic for Champagne with intense caramelized red berry fruit, licorice and wildflower honey. The palate shows tremendous volume and intensity with a powerful, full bodied and satiny texture and a long, vibrant, mineral finish. So good. — 7 months ago

Mugnier’s Fuées, a magical vineyard and essentially a southern extension of Bonnes Mares, is just stunning tonight wafting layers of sweet strawberry-rhubarb, black tea, rose petals, game and smoky minerals. It’s liquid velvet in the mouth with an energetic spine of cool minerality and balanced acids adding freshness and focus to its delivery. No formal notes . This is a youthful colour , straw , light lemon yellow . Took some time to open and benefitted from decanting . Quite mineral with some pure citrus and slightly buttery note . On the palate this shows some round citrus fruits , nice creamy texture but the acidity is vibrant with mineral touches on the finish, really well balanced. Starts to open and change in the glass , young still and will still show well for the next 5-10 years perhaps . This was the best match for most of the courses at Frog by Adam Handling , creative and delicious cuisine I can thoroughly recommend if you are in London. — 10 months ago
