Isole E Olena

Isole e Olena

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2015

Blend of about mostly Sangiovese with 3% Syrah & 15% Canaiolo Nero, aged in large oak casts. Deep Ruby red color with aromas of black and red fruit adding tobacco and herb pepper spice nuances. On the palate flavors of blackberries and cherries, savory with licorice notes. Fine tannins, full body, nice balance, long finish ending with herb and fruit mineral character. — a month ago

One of the better (best?) Italian Syrahs I’ve had. Totally integrated, medium bodied, delightful fruit — 4 months ago

Terreno

A Sofia Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2018

Sofia’s favorite vineyard plot. A “smoke show” we called it. Generally the 19s were the standouts — beautifully balanced and giving all of the dried herb and earthy notes typical of great Chianti Classico — but this was an exception, opulent and spicey (allspice, cinnamon, cedar) and so so fragrant. Stay in the look out for these wines — Sofia (the estate manager) and Giocomo (vineyard manger and cellar master, most recently of Isole & Olena) are making some really intentional and pretty wines here. — 3 years ago

Cepparello Toscana Sangiovese 2019

Opened about an hour prior to service; enjoyed over the course of two hours. The 2019 Cepparello pours a garnet color with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with ripe notes of Morello cherry, red flowers, black tea, a combination of cool and warm spices and dry, dusty earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. A beautiful Cepparello and although it’s quite young, it’s showing well in its relative youth! Drink now with some patience through 2044. — a month ago

Collezione Privata

Isole Olena Toscana Chardonnay 2018

This wine is medium gold. The nose opens up to a bouquet of stone and tropical fruit notes such as ripe peach, apricot, papaya, starfruit, melon, and cantaloupe.

Other primary aromas include orange peel, wet stone, white blossom, and salinity. This wine also has secondary notes of sweet cream, brioche, pencil shavings, and vanilla.

The flavors on the palate are consistent. It’s a full bodied white with high alcohol (14%) and has a rich mouthfeel, balanced by a dose of acidity.
