Tasted over 6 hours. Classic. One of the better Cepparello I have had, particularly with age. Classic Sangiovese with tart cherry, some plum, mint, and tertiary tobacco, with some floral and leather. Perfect acidity, mouthwatering, but the tannin could be a little more polished as they are a bit chewy and chalky at the moment. Med/med+ body, with a med+ finish. This wine is medium gold. The nose opens up to a bouquet of stone and tropical fruit notes such as ripe peach, apricot, papaya, starfruit, melon, and cantaloupe.

Other primary aromas include orange peel, wet stone, white blossom, and salinity. This wine also has secondary notes of sweet cream, brioche, pencil shavings, and vanilla.

Sofia’s favorite vineyard plot. A “smoke show” we called it. Generally the 19s were the standouts — beautifully balanced and giving all of the dried herb and earthy notes typical of great Chianti Classico — but this was an exception, opulent and spicey (allspice, cinnamon, cedar) and so so fragrant. Stay in the look out for these wines — Sofia (the estate manager) and Giocomo (vineyard manger and cellar master, most recently of Isole & Olena) are making some really intentional and pretty wines here. — a year ago
