In addition to its unique bottle shape and colorful, eye catching label, the 2023 Blanc de Morgex et de la Salle, is
also known for being produced at Europe’s highest vineyard: the Valle d’Aosta region in the upper northwest of Italy, on the borders of France and Switzerland, just a chip shot from the Summit of world-famous Mont Blanc.
The clear, light straw appearance is followed by persistent lemon/lime/floral aromatics and flavors. It is sourced from pre phylloxera rootstock of the indigenous Prié Blanc grape.
It is well balanced and structured with ample fruit and acidity; Light bodied, but somewhat fleshy, with a lingering touch of skin contact (oak?) at the long mouth coating finish. A most unique wine from a singular site. Worth a try if you can find it. — 9 months ago

Compared to the 2022 vintage, the 2023 shows noticeably brighter acidity and a more refreshing overall profile.

Armas Estate – Uru Uu Karmrahyut 2015
Aragatsotn Province, Armenia 🇦🇲
Overview
Made from 100% Karmrahyut, an indigenous Armenian tenturier grape (red pulp as well as skin), this bottling from Armas Estate shows just how approachable and crowd-pleasing ancient varietals can be when crafted with precision.
Aromas & Flavors
Ripe cherry, plum, and pomegranate notes mingle with subtle floral tones and earthy undertones. A touch of spice and soft herbs lift the nose, while the palate is juicy, silky, and surprisingly elegant for such a deeply pigmented grape.
Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied with rounded tannins, approachable acidity, and a smooth finish that makes this red both distinctive and easy to love.
Winemaking Notes
Armas Estate, founded by the Armas family, is dedicated to reviving Armenia’s indigenous grapes through modern yet respectful techniques. Karmrahyut—rare outside Armenia—offers naturally high pigment and structure, but here it’s crafted for charm as much as power.
Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with lamb kebabs, roasted vegetables, dolma, and aged Armenian cheeses.
Verdict
A true expression of Armenian heritage made modern, this 2015 Uru Uu is a gem for wine adventurers and an approachable introduction to Armenia’s native reds.
Personal Pick Highlight
I had the privilege of hosting a class with Victoria Aslanian herself—one of the estate’s owners—which made this bottle not just delicious, but deeply memorable. — 9 months ago
Wow. Axiotissa — 4 years ago
Sticking with the “great wines from grapes you’ve never heard of” theme for a while longer, why not join me for a sip of this alpine gem. Grown in the northerly reaches of Italy’s Valle d’Aosta, just over the border with France and Switzerland, and in some of Europe’s highest altitude vineyards (1200 meters) this wine is made from the Prié Blanc grape. Prié Blanc is the region’s only indigenous white grape, and is rarely found within the Valle d’Aosta, let alone outside of it. Vibrating with mineral intensity, the wine tastes of green apple, lemon cucumber, dried honey, and a hint of herbs. Electric acidity and a sort of peach-pit tanginess linger in the finish. Because the region is mostly tiny growers, Cave Mont Blanc is a cooperative, and a very high-quality one at that. — 5 years ago
Plummy dark fruit aromas together with earthy sooty notes - also liquorice. Medium plus weight with noticeable tannins and firm structure. The oak has integrated unlike my previous note 131 weeks ago when it was a tad obvious. The product of 3 indigenous Greek grape varieties which I’m sure you would not have heard of. Ultra savoury bordering on the astringent but overall I liked it. One of the 1001 Wines - I don’t see many Greek wines. — 6 years ago

Alpine Roots Humagne Rouge 2023, AOC Valais, Switzerland 🇨🇭

Wild dark berries, red currant, cocoa powder, subtle dried herbs, and a touch of alpine earthiness. The fruit remains fresh while savory tones begin to emerge with air.
Mouthfeel
Light to medium body with soft edges and refined rusticity. Gentle tannins and bright acidity keep the wine lively and approachable. A textured palate that leans savory rather than fruit-heavy.
Food Pairings
Charcuterie, roasted poultry, mushroom dishes, alpine cheeses, lamb sausages, or herb-driven Mediterranean dishes.
Verdict
Distinctive and surprisingly charming. A wine that doesn’t try to imitate global varieties but instead celebrates its mountain identity. Approachable, food-friendly, and quietly intriguing.

solid white here: traveled thru Slovenia years ago and liked almost all the indigenous wines we had, this showed a sparkly straw color w/greenish hues, delicate florals & subtle white fruit on the nose, something really sweet & earth driven & minerals. on the palate it is silky smooth just a tiny bit oily sporting that low key white fruit but now w/some citrus. well balanced, plenty of integrated acidity, med (-) bodied and lingering finish. go find some - great QPR — a year ago
Last night i organised a little tasting with wines from the Mt Pollino district
Well, i might or might not agree with the crowd, but this rosé killed the other two wines in popularity
Probably you don't finish the night and take with you a cerebral memory of it, but you will associate the fun of the moments with this juice for sure
It's a winner, easy to love, charming and it has a story too
Guarnaccino is, in fact, a unique expression of the Chiaramonte terroir, Luigi Lauria had found in 2006 twenty vines(lSt remaining apparently)of it among the variety existing in the local fields.
Now he looks after about 5 hectares and in 2013 the Guarnaccino was register as the only indigenous grape of Basilicata
The wine is very straightforward: fruit, freshness and a mineral vein
Instructions: chill it, pour it and drink it
Result: great vibe surrounding the area
As a wine thinker i might argue that isn't superlong, but i must agree that it gets to the people and that matters indeed — 4 years ago
A blend of 40% Corvinone, 30% Corvina, 15% Rondinella, remained indigenous grapes derived from 18-acre vineyard. Ruby with with aromas of dried fruits with floral and smoky spice notes. On the palate plum and sweet cherry flavors, savory, with citrus, tobacco & cacao. Soft tannins, chewy on long finish ending with a juicy fruit and oak character. — 5 years ago
This is one of my favorite white wines of all time and this vintage is the best I’ve ever tasted. Lemongrass, honey suckle, saline notes, mist, and slightly effervescent. Seaside liquid freshness with low acidity, low alcohol, but medium plus body. From an indigenous grape in Basque Country in Norther Spain, so pleasantly good, a crowd pleaser for sure! Good value to top it all off, hovering around the twenty some dollar range. — 5 years ago
