Decanted and really opened up in little more than half an hour. 54 years and still has vitality. There’s still some fruit but it is mixed with subtle acidity and soft tannins. A delight to drink and share with friends. Our friend was given the wine and wanted to share it. We all were quite happy.👍🍷🍷 — 4 years ago
Half bottle. Lovely gold color. Different nose from most Sauternes I’ve had, and really enjoyed it. It had more brown sugar and herbal tones to it. Wine was lighter than expected but very clean, which was honestly nice especially with the great texture it had. Orange, pineapple, and peach dominate. Solid finish. — 5 years ago
1978 vintage. Great fill with a fully saturated cork. Used a Durand to remove and cork held up but big cork splinters shedding upon removal. Decanted and tasted over the course of an hour. Super silky, not chunky, sed. Light-medium body. Had to coax the nose out a little but revealed cassis, tobacco, dark plum, sandalwood and cherry pits. All these plus a slight, beef broth touch in the flavors. Not improving but can sustain another half-decade in this incarnation. Gorgeous, old BDX. Drink now till 2029. 12.8.23. — 2 years ago
Very nice Sonoma Pinot; well reviewed and well regarded. For the price, though, I was expecting more. In fact, I am ever so slightly disappointed, given the hype. Not as complex and beguiling as Marcassin. Other Pinots all over California compare favorably, at half the price. I bought two bottles, so let’s see if this improves with a bit more age. Had the 2018 vintage with Christmas duck, duck, goose (Cantonese roast duck and Peking Duck from Hop Woo and house roasted goose—mmmm!). — 4 years ago
At it’s absolute last drinkable moment in time. Opened and decanted (for sediment), the cork crumbled and disintegrated. This wine was delicious and beautiful...for about an hour. I went back and tried what was left about an hour and a half after opening it and it had already become “vermouth”, as a server at an Italian restaurant once told me about a too-old bottle of Barolo he’d tried. Drink them now if you have them, and do it quickly!

Half bottle. So expensive but such a fantastic expression of what a wine can hold. — 6 years ago
From the Langtons Outstanding category this small production wine from the Mornington Peninsula has escaped me over the years but there is no doubting its quality. I have since purchased some and will look forward to trying this after a year or two cellaring initially. Very promising. — 7 years ago

Ready to drink … not much decanting time at restaurant. Found a half bottle at store prices :)

Krug is always most welcome, and Valentine’s Day is no exception. This is edition 169. A bit more yeasty and slightly less acidic than previous versions, to my taste. But if you like the Krug style - which we do very much - it hits the spot per usual.
My wife used to work with Fritz Hatton, proprietor of Arietta wines and auctioneer for Zachys. Fritz always says to have a half bottle of champagne waiting in the fridge in case you need a “midnight snack”, and I have to agree with him! — 4 years ago
Nice lush tannins, maybe not as light as previous vintages? Blackberry, graphite, light leather, the usual tar & dried roses, damp earth, touch of oak. From Glass Half Full (Provincetown) — 6 years ago

2001 vintage. Nice fill and great cork. Opened and decanted. Expected sed but fairly minimal compared to a Cabernet-based wine. Beguiling nose. Light-medium body that had dropped any extra fat long ago. Spiced plum definitely afoot. Tasted after 15 mins open, 1 hour open, 1.5 hrs open and 8 hrs open. Remarkably consistent. Likely another half-decade at this plateau before dropping down. 10.16.24. — 9 months ago
