Grüner Veltliner

Havlin Vineyard Van Duzer Corridor Grüner Veltliner 2018

Lyle Fass
9.3

Love this wine. Nose is a bit reduced and sulfury but that will blow off as I’ve had this bottle before. So JD on the nose for now. Palate is so bright and elegant with pitch perfect fruit and density. So clean and mineral. Wonderful minerality, brightness, texture and length. So compact. Super mineral and not at all like Austrian GV. Such nice acids and freshness. This is terrific. Almost tannic on the finish but in a white wine kind of way. Long. I’ll be back for the nose.

On day 2 the nose is so good. Candied lemons, white pepper, vegetables, just sick. Palate is focused, rich, clean and mineral. Salty and long 9.2 to 9.3 overnight.

Koreaa Grüner Veltliner Blend 2021

A Gemischter Satz from Burgenland, slightly naturalistic, a bit funky, highly drinkable.
A flowery nose with some ripe pear, apple, summer meadow but also a salty, herby note adding an interesting edge.
On the palate this is vibrant, energetic, juicy. There’s a bit of grip, a beautiful mouthfeel, nice mid palate presence. Yellow fruit, ripe & a bit bruised, with great juiciness and an underlying salty minerality.
This has character, interesting edges and good depth. And disappears in a blink.
Lobe the label, too!

Spitzer Point Smaragd Grüner Veltliner

Very nice and rather smooth Grüner Veltliner. 9 points because I line it, not because it is a typical wine. On the contrary, the wine is not „peppery“ at all and only shows comparably low acidity. 14 % alcohol are also rather uncommon and perhaps the reason I really enjoyed drinking the 2020 vintage. — 14 days ago

Hefeabzug Wachau Grüner Veltliner 2020

Snappy acidity. Medium bodied with lemon, tangerine, loads of white pepper, and a green note I can’t quite place. Asparagus? Other tasters mentioning arugula. Mineral, even a bit salty. Excellent. — 17 days ago

Unreal. Closest to my favorite Nikolaihof Grüner Veltliners for its penetrating tension, polish, and sapid Grüner Veltliner liqueur. What a Grüner Veltliner must take like after you make it through the pearly gates. — 10 days ago
