Chinon Blanc Chenin Blanc 2018

From an especially damp, label-unfriendly part of my cellar.

This shows the texture and flavor of rich, citrusy pineapple custard. Jasmine notes on the nose. A saline, fruit-candy bite. Luxurious, but with a concentrated brightness and great mineral density. I think this will get even better.

Bernard Bremont

Grand Cru Ambonnay Brut Champagne Blend 2013

Made with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Pale straw lemon with slight mousse and lively bead of bubbles. A nose of fresh fruit with yeast, nutty notes and floral scents. On the palate flavors of peach and citrus flavors with biscuit tones. Ok balance, bold acidity, delicate textures, medium finish ending with chalky mineral notes. Drink now! — 14 days ago

Chinon Cabernet Franc Rosé 2021

Delectable Wine
9.0

With no skin contact, just pressing, the 2021 Rosé Chinon is a totally dry, firm and direct style leaving no compromise. Fermented in cement but left on lees with no sulphur added, there's a hint of oxidative character. The ose presents a nutty, pastry note as well as dried apples alongside subtle red fruit. A savory, pale salmon-hued rosé with some phenolic firmness. (Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, August 2022)

Domaine Bernard Defaix

Chablis Chardonnay 2020

A nice dark straw yellow, leaning on the light side. The typical wet slate and citrus smells of Chablis. Maybe even a bit of golden apple. Bone dry and high acid, but not too tight. A lot spicier than I was expecting too! Quite complex and a good long finish to boot. — a month ago

Bernard Faurie

Hermitage Syrah

This one was unplanned and got slipped into the flight towards the end. I had no previous experience with the wines of Bernard Faurie so there was no real fanfare. This was a stunning showing. Lovely fruit still but it was the added complexity of secondary and tertiary characteristics that really impressed. Everything seemed to be in balance and really showed what properly aged Hermitage can do…and it really is quite special. — 9 days ago
