First and Foremost my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that has suffered loss in the California wildfires. Many wineries suffered and I was especially saddened to hear of the damage at Hourglass..it is a personal favorite and was actually the first higher end wine that I sought to purchase (per my budget).
Irony...sometimes strange. I heard about the loss at Hourglass this morning. After work I visited my local Hyvee Wine Dept and they have a lot of their SB..different Vintages..not normal in this area!
Yes! So the wine..this 2016 has evolved so amazingly! I am getting lemon..grassiness..
Honey..soft flint..kiwi..and a hint of cheese rind! Fantastic wine Hourglass! 🙏🙏🙏😪 — 5 years ago
The signature wine from the exquisitely tended Puente Alto vineyard, deep Ruby with aromas of dark fruits and espresso notes, a blend of 91% Cab Sauv and 9% Cab Franc, aged for 15 month in French oak (66% new). On the palate pronounced flavors of black cherry and plum with herb notes. Firm grippy tannins, long finish ending with herb tobacco notes, still tight needs time. Tasting Sample! — 6 years ago
The 2014 Lagniappe is an outstanding bottling from Gramercy Cellars, this Syrah was sourced from the Forgotten Hills, Red Willow and Minick Vineyards. The wine underwent 66% whole cluster fermentation and was aged for 18 months in used puncheons prior to bottling. This shows wonderful aromatics of dried herbs, red cherry, red raspberry, rose petals, Parma ham and blood orange. There are ripe flavors of black cherry, Chinese black tea, mint, coffee grounds and hints of orange rind and anise. This dense Syrah needs a two hour decant for full expression and drinks even better on the second day. Lithe and light on its feet, this will cellar well for at least another ten years. Really smooth mouthfeel, great legs. — 7 years ago
Blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot & 3% Petit Verdot, deep Ruby with aromas of black fruit and floral aromas. On the palate blackberry, currant and plum flavors with cacao, tobacco and oak notes. Fine tannins, long finish, good balance ending with fruit, cacao, tobacco, earthy herbs and toasty cedar notes. Will age another 10 years! — 3 years ago
We liked it. No headaches. — 5 years ago
Enjoying some wonderful aged Australian Rieslings from my cellar currently. This from the Eden Valley was almost as impressive as the Eldredge from the Clare a few days ago. Pale Lemon in colour. Nose of mandarin rind, pith and flesh, dried flowers but no Kero. The palate is showing Mandarin juice, a touch of sweetness and low acid. This wine has blossomed with cellaring, becoming delicious after the austerity of its youth. The vineyard was planted in 1912. Colin Kroehn as at 2012 has tended this vineyard for 66 of his 86 years. — 5 years ago
Very good Grenache. Complexity but not overpowering. A little spicy, right Glen? — 6 years ago
Vila. Tast Chateau Musar. 66% Obsideh, 33% Merwah. 70,00.

Fragile - I don't believe it’s pronounced frah-ghee-lay - has a big, bright nose full of big, bright red fruit. A bit of heat pokes its head through, too, owing to the 15% alcohol content. That cherry-red fruit comes through on the palate as well, with a boatload of acidity to boot. The winery notes say Fragile pairs well with lighter fare and warm, sunny days. I'd have it with pork chops in a heartbeat. — 7 years ago
Dark red color with a nice nose of black fruit and a full body with decent complexity and still a decent amount of tannins and fruit which is minimally sweet and a medium aftertaste. Ready, But will last a 3-6 years more in a cool cellar. — 7 years ago
@ smooth 10% alc/v this is a nice and easy sip with delicious peach and nectarine flavors. — 7 years ago
A library bottle I picked up when visiting the winery in Sept last year. The 2018 I had while there was absolutely astounding in how good it was, and jumped at a chance to try one with age. I truly believe this is easily a top-3 Bordeaux Blanc style coming out of Cali (and maybe my number one).
66 Semillon/33 SauvBlanc/2 muscadelle. The bright citrus notes started off faint (and were much more prominent at release) but soon gave way to beautiful honeyed tropical notes…honeysuckle, honeyed mango, ripe peach. The texture here has turned rich/creamy but not cloying. Notes of sweet spice, orange marmalade, lemon scone and finishes with a mineral-driven flair that had some serious length. Hard to believe this is 7-yr old white wine which seems to likely be at peak (and probably holds here for a few years). Fantastic! — 4 years ago

Tonight I thought I would open this LMHB as the 2019 was released on futures yesterday. It may be a better wine but you are going to have to wait a long time to find out. The 66 is a wine where I have opened more than 6 cases in the last 5 yrs & consider it one of the great vintages for current drinking showing black fruits, cassis, saddle leather, smoke, tar, graphite, licorice, soy, tobacco & violets. This has been fully mature for 10 yrs & perfectly stored btls will continue to drink well for many years. One of the wines that keeps me searching & drinking old Bordeaux! — 6 years ago
One of the best rosés I’ve had in quite some time. 66% Grenache, 34% Mourvèdre. Bigger style with lots of complexity and depth to it. It’s as though someone took two of my favorite rosés, Arnyca (lighter style) and Antica Terra (super heavy style) and combined them. In the glass it has an absolutely gorgeous deep ruby color. Aromatically, it has spicy red fruits like rhubarb with watermelon, peppercorn and sea salt. It tastes remarkably like a gummy version of rhubarb, showing more spice at the finish. Not made in the crushable style, this deserves and commands some thought (and food)! My thanks to @Bill Bender for the wine and introducing me to the potential of this producer. — 6 years ago

A little gem recommended to me by @gabymeetswine @vilaviniteca for €66 in a lovely gift box with elastic for extra kinkyness 😁 This Ribera Del Duero is young & drinking well but will improve with age 😍 5 years a 💥 Nice Xmas gift for somebody 😉

Tasted blind. Brownish tawny. Transparent and thin. A nose that brings a smile. Exotic. Notes of cherries, roses, Asian spice, rhubarb, soil and some Cuban cigar. Really nice in the mouth but finish is a bit thin, owing to its age. Guessed 66 DRC Echezeau (on a role with the guesses!) — 7 years ago
Sipping Fine Wine
Blend of 66% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, and the rest a mix of permitted varieties, Medium Ruby with aromas of ripe black fruits and earthy pepper spice. On the palate complex rich flavors of cherry and blackberry, with oak, leather, cacao and earthy spice. Full body, well balanced, fine tannins, long finish, perfect now but will last another decade. Outstanding! — 3 years ago
