Black cherry away, zeno — 5 months ago
Presented double-blind at Tasting Group. The wine pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and no obvious signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with powerful notes of ripe and some dried fruits: bramble berries, slightly stewed black cherry, dried herbs, stony earth, baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. The alcohol is high.
Initial conclusions: this could be a Grenache-based blend, Corvina-based blend or Sangiovese-based blend from France or Italy. I felt the combination of slightly stewed cherry and spices ruled out what I would want from a Sangiovese blend. Which, left me to decide between Southern Rhône or Valpolicella. I liked this wine…the oak treatment was interesting. I was getting a French barrique. Hmmm…
So, for my final conclusion: I’m calling this a Grenache-based blend, from France, from Southern Rhône, from Chateauneuf-du-Pape, 2017, from a more modern leaning producer using a good portion of barrique. I’ll be damned! I don’t hate my call but I gotta get better at distinguishing these wines from Southern Rhône. I probably just need to drink more of both, lol. Tasty stuff! Drink now through 2039. — 8 months ago
Nice taste with shuttle favours. No bitter after taste. Nice wine to drink with food or by its self — 5 years ago
Slight grassiness but a lot more melon and honey character. Felt more like a french Pinot Gris, but was much welcomed. So easy to drink on its own, but paired nicely with light vegetarian food as well. — 6 years ago
100% Pinot Grigio from Abruzzo. Light straw color. Aromas of orchard fruit, citrus, white flowers and fresh herbs. Bold green apple flavor with additional notes of lemon/lime, pear, green melon and those fresh herbs. Hints of saline and minerals on the medium-plus and slightly (pleasantly) bitter finish. Quite fruit forward but still very dry. Mouth watering acidity and quite bright, clean and fresh. 12.5% ABV. Quite refreshing on a summer day. Thank you for sharing, Mark S! — a month ago

incredible aroma like a resinous perfume - great tannins - dry and luxurious — 9 months ago
Some of us, being Nebbiolo supplicants, love Ghemme for its paradoxical meaty, bloody, yet light qualities. This has it in spades, on the edge of cherry cough syrup but never quite there. The woods, especially on the nose. This wine would benefit from a large glass.
It’s a bit of a sneaky, under the radar winery, hopefully for a bit still.
Lots of cherries, loam, dirt, blood, stoniness. Delicious. A ‘17 feels just about right. — 2 years ago

Spezie moltissimo pepe. Tannico. Molto. Manca di freschezza e sapidità. Molto secco. Profumo intenso di spezie. Lo trovo particolarmente intenso di spezie e manca un po' di frutto. Cmq ottimo ! Carnale e ferrico. — 5 years ago

2021 vintage at Tratoria with Italian. Yum! 10/23/25 — 10 months ago
Superb nose of red berries, leather, quince and some herbal notes. The palate is very well made with a great acid drive, some red berries notes all along, some width but it's rather light and smooth on the mouthfeel. There are some tannins in the rear, a bit dusty and drying and a long fruity and fresh finish that lingers for quite some time. I had never heard about refrosco before and I read that it's pretty confidential. I will make sure to dig into it some more! — 3 years ago

Yummy bottle. Deliciously soft texture with an unmistakable spiciness on the back of the palate. Ripe fruit, black pepper, slightly herbaceous. Stunning bottle...great way to end a Monday! — 8 years ago

Another fun-loving iteration of this unique Italian clone of Grenache. So damn fresh and fruity. Bright. As with the 2020 version I had several years ago, this is very much a chiaretto style deck sipper. — 15 hours ago
