Oh my! Love this wine. Super ripe style that is so hedonistic in its Nose, color, sweet dark cherry fruit. Never thought a Sangiovese could be a clone for a Napa cult but here we are/were with the 2001! New world vs Old world going on with this one and New world wins big time with this one! — 7 years ago
Leviathan is the creation of husband and wife team Andy Erickson and Annie Favia-Erickson. They also collaborate on their Favia label, each bringing a resume boasting serious cult winery experience. Andy has spent time as winemaker at Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle, Ovid, Dancing Hares and Arietta, with prior work at Harlan and Staglin, while Annie got her start with John Kongsgaard and Cathy Corison, before spending more than a decade as a viticulturist with David Abreu. The San Francisco Chronicle’s Jon Bonné said about the Ericksons, “Together they could probably create a 98-point wine in their sleep.” Their 2012 Leviathan is a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 16% Merlot, and 14% Syrah all coming from Northern California, and mostly from Napa. There’s no dispute that this is rich and extracted, but there’s an underlying savoriness that balances out this fruit bomb. Blackberry, black cherry, licorice, mocha, cigar box, crème de cassis, and sweet tannins that carry with them that savory herbaceousness. — 8 years ago

Banti has a cult following for a reason; this wine is great (and under $20). Sangiovese/merlot blend. 91-92 — 9 years ago
Good for $50.00, but come on@Eric Shanks
Re taste those beau vigne wines blind next time or while sober,🚼 definitely would buy again, just doesn't have that smooth, thick & viscousness of the Cult or Guest cottage,
Glad@Eric Shanks mentioned them though — 10 years ago
We found this bottle in my father in laws cellar and frankly didn’t know what it was at first. Apparently this was one of the original Cali cult wines...which had me pretty skeptical, though at “only” 13.5% alcohol I was left with some hope that it would not be an overripe jam bomb disaster. My ending verdict is that it’s actually quite nice, especially with some air. Lots of berry fruit, in a way that is certainly a bit over extracted. But this has mouth watering acidity - even after nearly 30 years - that really keeps this together, along with some nice lifting menthol at the end. Nice. — 6 years ago
What to expect from a cult wine?big and bold — 7 years ago
Absolutely lovely second wine from 4G of South Africa. The fact that this is a second wine is a bit of a joke given just how good this is. Reminds me of a wine from a great Napa cult producer. Great freshness, tannic / acidic structure, purity of fruit without the teeming depth of its bigger, bolder brother. — 9 years ago

Wood, oak, black fruit, berry. Medium body. Tannins do not knock you over. Creamy. Not acidic. Balanced. — 7 years ago

Firstly we wanted to thank @Martin G Rivard for sharing this bottle with us. Stunning wine and such a treat. Really enjoyed these two beauties from Mollydooker Wines!
Tasted blind, theme was either Napa Cult Wines or High End Australian, not told directly to keep us on our toes.
Darkest of the lot so far, with a deep purplish red. Rich nose of caramel, black fruits, sweet spices and a touch of heat too. Heavy tannins (7.5/10) and full bodied. Rich, extracted and powerful on the palate. Layers of perfumed purple flowers, a bit creamy, tons of sweet spices, and dark fruits. Well balanced acidity. Insanely long finish. Drink till 2033.
The third wine, and without a doubt an insanely young Australian Shiraz. Needed the extra day for the heat to dissipate. This was decanted for three hours on day one, could have used more time. — 9 years ago

Final and cleanup wine is a classic Cult - love this wine - will rate later as just started to decant and I really want to let this puppy breathe - will be all SMILES 😀😀😀😀😀😀 tonight - so my little international night desire and hope others will join me - just a sneak taste and I am in heaven - OMG smile will be with late into the night - love good wine!!!!! — 9 years ago

This wine was our unanimous winner in our cult Cali blind tasting held back in 2012 against some big hitters, Dominus, Shrader, Shafer Hillside etc. Med bodied in an opulent style with good balance & length showing notes of blackberry, creme de cassis, forest floor, graphite, licorice & violet. — 6 years ago
