Pop and pour. An enticing deep ruby red color. On the nose: brambly cherry, floral, cloves, touch of funky earth. Taste: dark cherry, cedar, minerals, planting soil, baking spice with just a little tannic kick. Nice solid Burg with a better score to come. — 10 months ago

My continued quest to try as many 2022 Burgundies as possible.

So, after my first sip, I stopped & went to grab one of these and got the last floor bottle. This is my red burgundy wheelhouse.

The nose is somewhat subtle at this stage. But is dark, somewhat big and definitely brooding. Slightly candied darker fruits with beautiful dark, fresh & withering florals framed in violets.

The palate shows beautiful, near perfect ripe fruits of; dark cherries, plum, poached strawberries with hues of purple & blue. There are fairly pronounced tannin profiles in all this wines in this tasting. This shows more than the others. The body/mouthfeel is excellent. Dry top soils, dry, crushed rock power, dry herbs, red cola, both licorices, soft, dark spices, light baking spices, used tobacco, dry leather, a bit of lightly grilled meats, dry river stone, dry brush, bright red & dark florals framed in violets, excellent acidity and a excellent finish that is well; structured, balanced with elegance and last two-minutes.

10 plus years of cellaring will yield another two points.

One of the more accessible and expressive 05’s I’ve had in a while, Cathiard’s Vosne-esque Aux Murgers is open and giving wafting perfumed and spice laced dark berry fruit with violets, black tea and damp earth. The palate is pure silk, elegant and seductive, perhaps even belying the burly vintage typicity, with terrific persistence, balanced acids and soft tannins. An 05 that is finally ready to go! Vintage 2009 | This is a Pomerol with a certain strictness. We tasted it blind next to a left bank wine but the tasters did not recognize this as a right bank wine. It seems to be made for the long haul, with clear tannines even after 15 years. Good integrated wood with a light vanilla impression. — 8 months ago

Not part of our little “Vosne-side of NSG” blind shootout, but it might as well have been. Opened earlier during dinner as a blind, I thought it looked very NSG. Why I had it there was mostly down to the elimination process in our blind options. Right on I was, but had it younger.

Very dark fruited on the nose, along with earthy, spicy notes and hints of dark chocolate and moss. The palate was quite pure and elegant, with grippy tannins and an earthy, lightly mineral (which didn’t seem to grow with air) finish. When drank side-by-side with the pair of 19’ NSG during dinner, it didn’t quite have the depth not intensity of the two. It certainly wasn’t as bombastic as the MG, nor had the obvious “goût de terrior” notes of the Grivot, but had a certain elegance I liked. — 9 months ago
