Terrible pic, great wine. Structured, dense and chewy, with ample tannins that are perfectly ripe and help to prolong the flavor. Still young and burly, with a flavor profile that veers towards young and savory - coffee, bitter chocolate, iron, graphite. There's a beautiful core of sweet cherry underneath - high toned, almost sappy - needs time. Great winemaking - balance of sweet and savory, dry but not astringent, fresh and lively but serious as well. Old school styled and delicious. — 6 years ago
These are day 2 notes. Nose has very tangy berry fruit and lots of cracked rock minerality. Lean but weighty in the mouth. Dry core of fruit and rock. A little peppery heat on the finish. Somewhat more burly than most 14s I’ve had, but still very good. — 7 years ago
Highly peppery, aromatic, very scented. Black rich, slightly jammy fruit (blackberries, mulberries), a healthy pinch of freshly ground black pepper, some black olives.
Great freshness on the palate, with the rich, slightly creamy black fruit only he one side and the juicy, spicy tannins on the other. This is rich & burly yet elegant at the same time. A beautiful Hermitage, on the more modern spectrum.

Ready? Imagine pudding wrestling in vanilla. And you're about to make the pin and you realize you need a glass of red. So a fan hands you a fantastic tempranillo and as you take a sip some pudding, a drop of sweat from a burly French female ref all fall into your mouth at the same time. There ya have it. Get at it!! Yeah Suckling! — 6 years ago
Smooth, great bottle

Revisiting this burly beast almost a year later and it’s still as it was before: terrific. Impenetrable dark crimson with a little more bricking going on. Vanilla, lavender, a good bit of oak, and blueberries on the nose. At almost eleven years old, this doesn’t remind me so much of a standard Napa Can but rather a nice Bordeaux. The heat from the alcohol has definitely settled down and is presenting some wonderful balance. There’s still some fruit here with layers of blueberries, cherries, and cranberries. Tobacco, coffee, and leather on the palate. This is a wine that’s absolutely singing right now. All hail to Last Bottle. Just like I said a year ago, powerful, ripe fruit, and great structure. — 6 years ago
Wow, what a deal at < $20 / bottle
Wine spectator says #69 of top 100 of 2014.
A burly, brambly red, underscored by tarry smoke and underbrush notes, offering flavors of blackberry coulis, herb-marinated black olive, grilled mushroom and ground spice. This shows muscle that recommends it to short-term cellaring, made accessible by integration and balance. Drink now through 2024. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. #69 – 91 points — 8 years ago
This burly beast has gained weight, incredibly, since last tasting. Lots of big brambly berry fruit, firm tannin, hints of asphalt, coffee grounds, and white pepper. Balanced, but lingering. Significant bottle life ahead, but as this wine has only existed since the '04 vintage, it's hard to guess the longevity. Drink or hold. — 8 years ago
