Quilceda Creek

Galitzine Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Concentrated, focussed fruit, deeply penetrating and revealing layers of dark flavor infused with potent tannins. Not for the ‘faint of heart’ — a month ago

I love this producer. Their top drawer Cabernets are exceptional. I bought some bottles in San Francisco. I never see Quilceda Creek in Australia.

Yes, exceptional wines! Revealing the high potential of the Columbia Valley of Washington with clonal selections of Cab Sauv. They also produce a more budget friendlier cvr blend that is still in a league by it selves. One of the first wineries in Washington State established back in the late nineteen seventies. They own and manage some very famous vineyards along the Columbia River. Their nearly entire wine making team left in 2021 which was a shocker so we will have to see how they overcame that. So far so good 😊

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Very approachable for a Howell Moutain cab. Needs a bit of airtime. Black and red ripe fruit, bordering too jammy. Tannins strong and grippy. High alcohol is noticeable. Nice finish. — 5 months ago

Pride Mountain Vineyards

Sonoma County Cabernet Franc 2021

Popped and poured; enjoyed over three days. Better on Day 2 and Day 3. The 2021 pours a deep ruby with near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of red brambles, green bell pepper, tobacco, purple flowers, dry gravely earth, soft baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and satisfying. I don’t drink Pride very often but there is a lot to like. Super consistent. Drink now with some patience but better after 2026 and through 2041 — a month ago

Drinking window wide open! Black cherry, black plum, licorice, and tobacco with currant covered tannins. Everything comes together so well with minute long finish of crème de cassis. Knocked out by this. — 3 months ago

Chappellet

Mountain Cuvée Proprietor's Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2020

Dark ruby hue. Aromas and flavors of blackberry, cassis, licorice, and plum. Plus body, plus tannins, plus acid. While strong, balanced, and elegant, it opens up with a soft, round palate. Exemplary Napa red. 68 Cab Sauv, 28 Merlot, 2 Cab Franc, 2 Petit Verdot. — 4 months ago

Ok this is just fantastic. I don’t think people understood how great this was given when we got to it but it was probably wine of the night. — 2 months ago

I haven’t really enjoyed this producer due to how much ABV it shows, This was the first time it didn’t burn the back of my throat. Still big and dark. It’s a 30 plus year wine. — 2 months ago

Really? Wow. At 26 years old, not only hanging in there… but highly enjoyable. The mustiness had to blow off for a while, and then it hit its stride. Some toasty fruit remains in front of a long finish. cheers to ending 2023. …. Still going. Finish still going…. Going… — 6 months ago

Patrick Campbell "got it." Only Cabernet Sauvignon from ANY producer with the word "Sonoma" on the label that I've ever had that absolutely kicked ass and took names. Can still taste the 1986, 1987, 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1994. The new version of Laurel Glen Cab is a far cry from what it used to be. Lucky you got a fleeting glimpse of a great vintage from an excellent property under the guidance of a supremely underrated winemaker. Happy New Year!
