The Ball Buster Barossa Valley Shiraz Blend 2010

Blend of Shiraz (77%), Cabernet Sauvignon (16%) and Merlot (7%). Deep purple core with a lighter ruby rim. Aromas of cooked blueberries, plums and dark chocolate. Same fruits on the palate with additional spicy notes of black pepper and black licorice. Long and fruity finish. Creamy texture with soft and velvety tannins. The acidity is still quite lively. Medium-plus body. Aged beautifully. Thanks for the gift, Petey! — a day ago

Annual birthday WWC hosting. As normal, 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds, 1 dessert, all presented blind.

Fun to open birth year wines around your birthday, especially when you can do a Bordeaux and Napa side by side. While not a great vintage, this held up well after a few hours and presented as expected. Clean and zero Brett. Great color! Deep ruby with hardly any bricking. Leather, cassis, vanilla pipe tobacco on the nose. Sporting a good bit of dusty red and black fruits (mostly tart raspberries and blackberries), there was a little savory truffle note mixed with an herbal and mocha finish. Still quite grippy. Pretty.

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Decanted and simmered for hours. By Hour 3+ this broadened into a deep and luxurious wine. Ripe fruit - currant blackberry. Nice mouthfeel with some mineral residue. Not a long tail on this but it did linger still. Not particularly fragrant. A bit inward overall but all the pieces good and bad kinda fit together and it was nonetheless quite enjoyable. — 4 months ago

3 Brooms Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2022

Bright straw gold color with faint green highlights. Intense aromas and flavors of gooseberry, grapefruit, lime, poblano pepper, roasted nuts, kiwi and lemon. Pleasant note of smoky minerals on the very long finish. Bone dry with vibrant and mouth watering acidity. Creamy texture, very complex and extremely fresh. Great QPR. — 16 days ago

The Ball Buster Barossa Valley Old Vines Shiraz Blend 2021

Deep purple in color; chocolate, blackberries, and earth on the nose; medium plus acidity; high tannins; tastes like black currant, black pepper, and eucalyptus with a long finish. I think it will improve with a good decant.

After decanting for about 30 minutes, I smell chocolate, black plums, and graphite. I taste black currant, blackberries, eucalyptus, and a hint of black pepper. It's much more in balance. Very tasty.

The 1911 cuvee is supposed to be 1911 bottles... Maybe this cuvee is produced at 1714 bottles?

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1995

1995 vintage. Good fill. Excellent cork with minimal saturation. Decanted and throwing a tad extra sediment…a nice mix of chunky and powdery sed. Tasted after 30 minutes and 2 hours open and decanted. Light-medium body. Dark cherry and earth in the nose. These transferred over and slapped on a fudge chocolate note on the finish. In a good place now and not improving. Would seem to hold steady in this standing for another 3-4 years. 6.6.24. — 9 days ago

Surprisingly smooth and mellow. It’s nice for a blend and would buy again. Plus I like bourbon. — 2 months ago

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

+3 hour decant(some chunky/fine sediment). A remarkable dark garnet color. On the nose: dark plum/currants, forest floor, touch of mint and leather, smokey brisket. Taste: layered, structured, dry wine with plum, cassis, tobacco, cedar, currants and a tangy spiced raspberry medium plus finish. YUM! No hurry, time to go. — 3 months ago
