New experience and fascinating. This is not funky hipster orange wine at all. This is clean, earl grey tea with forest honey. It’s amazing how much this tastes like a complex tea, but there is also some spiced tangerine. It actually evolves on the palate to baking spices galore, some rosemary, other woodsy notes. I am loving this. What an awesome exploration. I hope I can try other wines from this winery. Reminds me of some of the hiyu blends that are not what we are accustomed to as typical wine. So much more to explore. I wonder if this would age well — 3 years ago
Fruity and mild wine with Brenna, Christi, and Jodi — 4 years ago
Funky natural orange wine with hints of ripe apple and a Sauternes botrytis aroma. Good freshness and thickness. Not something you drink on a weekly base. Good match with Korean influenced grouse. — 4 years ago
Olaszrizling is no relation to German Riesling; this wine is orange and has Gewurtz-like spice with good acid and floral notes. — 7 years ago

Second wine from this producer and love it! This reminds me of my first few broc, donkey&goat, and hiyu wines. Made me think about what was possible in wine. By far one of the best orange wines I’ve had. This one is more jasmine tea and flowers everywhere. There’s some raspberry, sea salt, nectarine, more flowers, amazingly fresh and vibrant. God this is good and so drinkable. — 3 years ago
This is outrageous. Everyone should drink this. — 4 years ago
It’s made like champagne, but from Burgundy. — 4 years ago
I love unique wines, and this definitely qualifies. Thanks to the Matthiasson’s for the recommendation. Excellent QPR @ $16. Tangy, with oranges and citrus, but also contains oak and wood elements. Very close to the Matthiasson Ribolla Gialla. Great summer wine! Very complex. — 5 years ago
In southwest Michigan I am a big fan of the Domaine Berrien Cellars. Tonight I have opened the 2012 Domaine Berrien Cellars Pinot Noir. Wally Maurer does a great job as owner and winemaker.
On the nose I am getting cherry, strawberry, some good funk, caramel, sassafrass, vanilla, light oak, rose petal and earth.
On the palate there are notes of sour cherry, strawberry, cranberry, clove, cola, mushroom, some herbaceousness, light oak and dusty soil.
This wine is medium bodied with medium to plus acidity and medium to plus smooth tannin that leads into a pleasant medium to long finish. A very nice pleasing pinot from the southwest wine region of Michigan. Enjoy the rest of your week and please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 8 years ago

Multi-vintage. This is a wine where my wife and I diverged. The more time I spent with the wine opening and warming slightly in the glass, the more I enjoyed the complex aromas, flavors, and lighter body. She thought the initial volatile aromas paired well with our Moroccan spiced stuffed eggplant, but was not a fan with it after dinner. — 3 years ago
“Murk” murky wine. Tasty. We usually don’t go for natural, but this was pretty engaging. Tasted like a lemony bitter cocktail. — 4 years ago

Tonight's wine is the 2014 Domaine Berrien Cellars Cabernet Franc. Domaine Berrien is my go to winery in Southwest Michigan. Wally and Katie Maurer run a very good operation that I know I can count on for good expressions of Southwest Michigan wine.
On the nose is pronounced red berry fruit, cherry, sweet strawberry, sweet raspberry, pepper, herbaceousness, baking spice and dusty soil.
The red fruit continues through to the palate, tart strawberry, red raspberry, green bell pepper that I Love in my cab franc, tart plum, a touch of oak and a nice minerality.
This is a medium bodied wine with medium + acidity, medium smooth tannins and a long enjoyable finish. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 9 years ago
