Finish-dry,medium tannins, very smooth, underlying earth tones.
Overall-even better on 2nd day opened. I could not get enough of this wine. Always impressed with Joseph Wagner wines.$22.99
$22.50 at Harry’s Savoy Grille (1/2 price bottles on Wednesdays). Enjoyed with K.Pro.
Bottom line-excellent wine. My style for sure.
Not a typical Pinot Noir. Will buy more. Thanks Joe! — 3 years ago

Not to be harsh, but this was the underperformer of the blind tasting. As said in my previous notes, I reckon I would have gravitated towards this wine if it wasn't done blind. It wasn't a bad wine - I just expected a little bit more.
Nose was very closed. Just smoky and wild. Could have guessed this correctly if producer was an option I felt, since it had the deepest cut of the lot (pretty typical of Daniel's wines). To me the palate was a little less ripe - mix of citrus and stonefruits, sappy, laser precision. Good driven finish, but felt a little less complex than the rest at the moment. I liked this wine for its energy (the most of the lot), but it could have given more. Overall, the wines in this bracket were all showing very well - all wines I would buy for my cellar if I had more space. — 5 years ago

Crafted by Owner/Winemaker Jenny Wagner, Emmolo named for Jenny’s maternal relatives, who came to Napa from Sicily in 1923. Vey Pale lemon color with aromas of fresh fruit, blossom and wet stone. On the palate flavors of peach, melon and lime citrus zest with some herb floral spice. Well balanced, vivid acidity, medium+ finish ending with mineral character. Nice value! — 3 years ago
Winemaker Joseph J. Wagner is a 4th generation winemaker from a family with farming and winemaking roots in the Napa Valley since 1906. Met Joe several times. Deep Ruby with red berry fruit aromas and sweet spice notes. On the palate flavors of raspberry and ripe blackberry with sweet oak, cacao and espresso notes. Soft fine tannins perfect acidity and balance long finish ending with mineral character. Nice! A Fav! — 4 years ago
Quilt pays tribute to Napa Valley’s wines, sourced from a patchwork of prime Napa Valley vineyards. Met Joseph Wagner a few times & tasted his wines. Tried ‘14 & ‘15, now ‘16. Deep Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruits, sweet spice and cedar. On palate flavors of blackberry and cherry, slight jammy notes, smooth, with vanilla, oak and leather notes, well balanced. Dusty soft tannins, nice mouthfeel, on long finish ending with espresso tones. Consistent quality, has room to age. Tasting Sample. — 4 years ago
1997- really delicious and holding up well. Touch sweet and with plenty of acidity. — 5 years ago
My wife & I were shopping at Central Market last night and couldn’t help but notice they were serving Caymus BTG at the bar. Needless to say, this got me in the mood for some good ol’ Wagner family juice. I figured I would open a ‘12 up since I have a half-case stashed away, just to see what we’re looking at. Rating will no doubt improve with decanting but as a P&P we have the usual sweet Fig, molasses, baking spice, Rutherford dust/dirt, blackberry cobbler, and rich plums. EDIT: Bumped the rating up from 9.2 to 9.3. After 2 hours in the decanter it’s much more integrated and pleasing to the palate. — 6 years ago
Little spice on the front end then smooth. at maxwells — 4 years ago
Las Alturas' Spanish for 'the heights', a fitting name, this vineyard located on one of the highest grape-growing benches in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. 4th gen Winemaker Joseph J. Wagner from a family with farming and winemaking roots in Napa since 1906. Met Joe several times. Deep Ruby (darkest Pinot I have come across, almost looks like a Cab). Rich berry flavors with cedar, spice and vanilla. Lingering ending with sweet oak notes. Consistent quality Nice! A Fav! — 4 years ago
Excellent Malbec. Had at Linger Restaurant in Denver, CO. Would buy if I could find it in Alabama. Unfortunately cannot. — 5 years ago
Dark purple in color with a short purple rim.
Great fruity nose with black currants, blackberries, cherries, figs, licorice, earth, raisins, vanilla, sweet oak, spices, chocolates, mocha, coffee and cinnamon.
Full bodied, bold and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice cloves, spices, chocolates, tobacco, mocha, coke, earth, light vegetables and black pepper.
Long finish with round tannins.
A great Petite Sirah from the house of the Wagner family. Very fruity and enjoyable by itself or with food.
Needs a couple of hours to open up properly and show some tannins, but yummy right out of the bottle.
Showing nice complexity and a great mouthfeel. Big bold and beautiful.
Would benefit from another few years, to mature properly, and get more complex.
Easy drinking so watch out.
I paired it with small appetizers.
14.8% alcohol by volume.
93 points.

Joe Wagner does it again! Not a typical PN, more like a fruity Syrah . Think Blackberry/Blueberry ala mode with a dollop of french vanilla ice cream with a hint of white pepper finish. Reminds me of cross between Wagner’s Caymus- Suisun and Red Schooner. — 6 years ago

May be the best Malbec I’ve ever had. Smooth blackberry jam with ripe dark fruit, less bite than typical Malbecs. Would buy again. — 2 years ago
