Mastrojanni (Poderi Loreto e San Pio)

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2016

Dark ruby color. Beautiful aromas of dark cherry, freshly tilled soil and expressive menthol. Dark cherry, plum, mushroom, mineral and earth on the pallet. Nicely integrated oak and beautiful acidity. Dusty tannins. Hint of that menthol on the long and lingering finish. Outstanding! Thank You Keith S! — 6 days ago

San Polo

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

Needed to shake off the cobwebs, but was drinking beautifully after a short decant. The red fruit is still juicy and bright, complimented by leather and earth with resolved tannin. — 21 days ago

San Giorgio

Ugolforte Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2016

2016: Darn good Brunello, young but opens to classic Sangiovese flavors after 4-5 hours: tart cherry, leather, tar, menthol, some minerals. Good concentration and mouthfeel. Should be even better over the next few years. $40 sale at GW. — 5 days ago

Stella di Campalto Podere San Giuseppe

Riserva Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2011

My favorite expression of Sangiovese. It’s amazing what Stella can do in warm vintages. 2011 Riserva is fabulous tonight, with soaring aromatics, stunning elegance and purity and fantastic intensity without any sense of weight. It’s fresh, floral and red fruited with complex layers of violets, forest leaves and exotic spice. The palate is juicy and vibrant with a silky texture, fine grained tannins and a long mineral inflicted finale that leaves behind hardly any warmth. Love these wines. Brunello for the Burgundy lover. — a month ago
