Sami-Odi Baby Tui 2012. Here it is folks. The one that sold me on Mr. Fraser McKinley. The bottle that confirmed the greatness. Every time I open Baby Tui, I say the same thing: “Best showing to date.” And its true! It just keeps getting better. Makes me reluctant to open another one because I’m running out! Years to go. But it’s so great RIGHT NOW! 4 hour decant. 14.9% alcohol. Room-filing aromatics. Cherries, raspberries, black pepper, grilled/charred meats and lavender. Same notes on the palate with powdery tannins. Wonderful texture. Dark and brooding yet rather lithe. Bold and well-structured. Classy and elegant. Long finish. Keep ‘em coming @Fraser McKinley — 7 years ago
2016v. Very pale gold. On the nose, it smells yellow apple and grape juice. On the palette, there is an intense, deep grape flavor from the clairette, a little bit of body and back of the mouth waxiness from the roussane, and clean acidity. A lovely wine on its own. I drank it with some firm cheeses. A little bit delicate, so dont be too bold with food pairings. Bought from the domaine in CDP after running around the cellar with the wine's attendant, Ms. Helène Bleuzen, who is destined to be a famous future name in winemaking. 13.5% ABV. — 7 years ago
In the running for favorite Napa cab of this yr. '09 is hitting its stride with huge black and blue fruit and a monster finish. Super smooth, still a way to go but hard to see it getting better. Great balance, freshness, and zip. Better than '07 Revana. — 8 years ago
A bit sweet but very drinkable. — 8 years ago
Medium ruby with a wide brim and a slight lavender tinge. If you don’t like funk, don’t even step to this. Smoked tobacco, mint, leather, and dark berries initially on the nose. Funky barnyard starts to creep in and it never really leaves. Thankfully. This is big and quite bold Grenache, but it still maintains a freshness and effervescent essence. Plenty dense with a nice streak of acidity running throughout, this is super dry and a little tart. Blackberries and dried cherries show up on the palate but the star of the show is that barnyard with all the earthiness and funk you could want. This is a gorgeous Grenache, a beautiful wine. This guy just knows what the hell he’s doing. — 5 years ago
Traditional Hungarian red wine with slight cherry taste. — 6 years ago
Good Brunello.. subdued acidity...crisp minerality running through a compote of maraschino cherries... beautiful ruby red color.....it wasn’t as good as when I tasted it in 2015 but with air it opened up quite a bit — 6 years ago
My wholesome follow up to the watching “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”. Tavel forever. I close my eyes and see red and saturated fuschia. That’s not a taste by go with me. If chalk wasn’t dry and cloves weren’t sharp those would be a fraction of what you get here. Another sip and it’s unsweetened watermelon candy. If that makes sense. This wine is like running through a sprinkler on a hot day while chugging an orange Julius. And the sprinkler is spraying raspberries. Don’t question me. Just drink. — 7 years ago
Dark fruit and brooding licorice with a lively dose of acid and funk running through it. — 7 years ago
Opened this a few days ago. It was entirely too fancy too guzzle on a school night after a difficult work day, but I saw it and I wanted it and I make no apologies. Elegant. Enough tannin to keep me on my toes. Pairs well with hamburgers and running out of fucks to give. #laterwine — 8 years ago
Wow. This wine is amazing. Not pairing it with what the bottle says, but I am running out of choices in our basement. 😉🍷 — 8 years ago
Great wine. Big and powerful, favoring acidity but balanced. Complex with a range of flavor, running the gambit of red and black fruit, some candied, some tart, along with spice, especially black pepper. Crazy value for $19. — 5 years ago
Finally getting around to posting wines from my annual Napa trip from two weeks ago. Always goes by quick! Lots of fun new stops this year.
Theorem was one of our highlights last year, so we made sure a return visit was lined up this year. Base of Diamond Mtn with one of the most beautiful properties I’ve seen. Over the last 12 months, they’ve added a couple new wines (with more to come from Moon Mountain). TRB is the winemaker.
In the running for red wine of the trip. When visiting last year, I preferred the ‘14 (ripe, balanced, savory) over the ‘15 (more acidity, touch lighter, high toned)...this ‘13 takes the best of each and marries them. This is a classic high end TRB Cabernet from a stellar vintage. Truffles raspberries, candied black cherries, cocoa dusted mixed berry pie and graphite aromatics accompanied by sweet blueberries, freshly squeezed blackberries, toffee and espresso, baking spices, and fine grained tannins. Built like a tank. Superb. — 5 years ago
WNH event number 4. Perfect Pizza Pairing bottles. Not a bad bottle in the bunch!
Another bottle in the running for WOTW (weekend) so far. Blueberries, graham cracker and fresh squeezed blackberries in the nose. Rich and full bodied on the palate with silky structure. Milk chocolate covered dates, and baked mixed berry pie. Hedonistic and wonderful. Killer bottle @Eric LaMasters ! — 6 years ago
No risk-taking tonight.
Starts with forest floor and red berry nose. Some licorice--but I always say that, and greenery/pine. Running a little hot, she's still young and needs to mature, a little. Low acidity, medium purple color, medium plus body, medium tannins. Super solid, not sensational.

Day 2: earth driven nose higjligthwd with dusty cherry and cranberry fruit. A puff of smoke too. Lighter, but balanced on the palate. Getting into cherry pit, tart rasberry and cranberry here. There a touch of minerality running through as well. Pretty tannin. Appreciable length. Drink now. Solid QPR from the Côte de Beaune. — 4 years ago
