Rare Red Lot 213

Trader Joe's

Reserve Lot# 213 Chalk Hill Merlot 2018

This Chalk Hill Sonoma actually. Smells zingy and fresh. Some herbs and black currants. Flavors are nice deep, complex and bright. Some menthol and wood oils. This has all the extra zip of Merlot. A bit too much oak on the back end. It’s good stuff. Juicy and highly drinkable, but some things to ponder too. — 5 years ago

Jacques Depagneux

The Society's Exhibition Fleurie Gamay 2018

Colour: translucent red allowing quite a lot of light to pass
Nose: quite acidic, no oak which is rare for a red and no tannins. Very light and refreshing smell. Reminds me of standing in the middle of garsons with smell of ripe fruits in the air during the peak of summer.
Taste: very light, and very easy drinking. Smooth vanilla flavour with little fruitiness coming into the foreground. A little tannic, could do well with some decanting.

Very short aftertaste.

Wine rongy will probably enjoy and probably good with light seafood dishes or with hard cheese.

Château d'Aydie (Famille Laplace)

Odé d'Aydie Madiran Tannat

Nice flavoursome Madiran from Chateaux d'Aydie - sits nicely in the back of your mouth. Not to heavy and works very well with a nice medium rare rump and a green and tomato & feta cheese sallad... the region of Madiran in sth west France still a winner in my book wth a lot of gems in/and around this area.... — 10 years ago

Sella & Mosca

Riserva Cannonau di Sardegna 2011

Has punch, not really a jab, more like an uppercut, medium rare finish, the rope is red and smooth but not cotton smooth but like unwashed and unused cotton smooth like I've used it a lot and I need to wash it , the feeling tastes like endless opportunities like star gazing in New York with mixed feelings because you can't see the stars and your red wine is actually in a white wine glass — 10 years ago

Chapelle St. Theodoric

Le Grand Pin Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2017

J. Kim
9.5

Smells like Piedmont with its leather, tar, mint and balsamic aromas. The fruit has the body and the weight of Rhone, but also has excellent acidities and tannin structure. Has the unique sense of uniformity and integrity, uncompromising energy, unforced intensity and elegance without artificiality rare in Rhone. Lot of Chateauneuf du Pape are not much better than the best Cotes du Rhone’s, this is significantly superior to most in terms of the finesse, purity and structure. Without any doubt one of the greatest wine in Southern Rhone. — 6 years ago

Terre di Talamo

'Percecco' Toscana Petit Verdot 2011

It's rare to see Petit Verdot as a varietal on its own. However, when you see one, it rarely disappoints. This one is no exception. Full bodied with a lot of spice, oak, and ripe fruits, especially plum and fig. Firm tannins with good amount of acidity suggest this wine will age really well. — 10 years ago

Ikarus Cabernet Cubin 2012

Ambitious wine from a rare grape (cabernet cubin). A lot of oak, but pretty well handled. A lot of power, could have more finesse, but still enjoyable. — 5 years ago

Beautiful. Fragile. Rare. Initially acidic but mellows out dramatically. Earthy and fruity tones collide kaleidoscopically in your mouth. An amazing natty. Finish the bottle within an hour. LOT 12 — 6 years ago

Adegas Tollodouro

Tollodouro Tinto Rías Baixas Sousón Brancellao

Definite gaminess-- like medium-rare venison. Canned Thanksgiving cranberry jellly-- like the stuff that takes the shape of the can. Ripe strawberry. Wild herbs and field of grains. Rose petals. Beef jerky. Tomato leaf. Red licorice. Bit of sweet tobacco. No doubt this is a complex wine.

This is the type of wine that right when I open and taste I think, "this is going to be absolutely delicious and layered in like two days if I leave it". And it's even gorgeous after like 20min in the glass.

Med/med+ gritty tannin, medium acidity, medium + body. Very Ruby red with clear rim. Lot of staining. Has a big feel, but it's somehow still light and refreshing.

Honestly, it's a lot bigger than I thought it would be for a Rias Biaxas Tinto. Feels so Rhone Grenache to me. This nose is so beautiful though... 91.5

Georges Dubœuf

Morgon Cote du Py Gamay 2000

2015 vintage. Very young , hard edged and concentrated, needs a lot of aeration now and should have considerable collaring potential. Dark cherry and berry aromas and flavors with a charcoal and iron ore structure throughout. As time went on an unmistakeable iron/blood flavor emerged. A wine like this explains why Beaujolais is still considered part of Burgundy. It is as noble and profound as its Pinot cousins to the north. This is a really intriguing enjoyable Cru level wine at a ridiculously affordable price. Would pair well with rare prime rib or grilled meats. — 9 years ago

Second wine of the night, one of my favorite labels that are not spoiled or overrated. One of this rare wines that you can still enjoy at a very comfortable price. Same vines as petrus, yes that is true ! Great wine and amazing overall balance with a lot of meats as I love my Boudreaux wines. — 10 years ago

Paul Jaboulet Aîné

La Chapelle Hermitage Syrah 1975

In English and French.

What a luck !

- A magnum Hermitage La Chapelle 1975 from Paul Jaboulet Aîné.

Bottle opened 24 hours before drink.

The wine is brown and trouble.

A big density, the bouquet offer lot of spicies, cinnamon, dried grappe, old cherry in alcool, date fruit.

The palate :

Full of spicies, deep. Again the cinnamon followed by date fruit and dried grappes, smooth and elegant, a long and fresh finish on the ground aromas like mushroom an old and luxury wood.

Not so old ! A great wine. Loved it.

Around 1200 - 1700 €

- Chance incroyable !

Degustation autour de ce magnum de 1975. Rare.

Florian.
