Château La Vieille Cure

Fronsac Red Bordeaux Blend 2011

Plush, velvety Merlot dominant blend, very easy to drink, still much primary plummy fruit, with some development (leather), moderate acidity and rather noticeable VA (why I didn’t rate it higher). — 8 years ago

Bodegas y Viñedos Vega Sicilia

Unico Ribera del Duero Tempranillo Blend 1967

Powerful and intense red plummy fruit. A touch of varnish on the nose then lovely poise and a long sweet palate with settled vanilla. Sexy, rounded and pretty. — 8 years ago

Château La Fleur-Pétrus

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1987

Surprisingly lovely for an 87! Perfect bottle from a private collection (and given to me for $30). Plummy fruit still in evidence with evolved notes of pipe tobacco a bit of moss/ash and red bell pepper. Medium in body with moderate finish, classic claret and really nice overall. Would hate to have tasted this in a lineup with other wines. On its own, it was lovable. — 7 years ago

Château Malescot St. Exupéry

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend

2014 vintage. More oak and body than initially suspected. Medium body (but heavy for Margaux). A little rambunctious (almost Napaesque) but delicious and fat now. Concentrated chocolate and plummy finish. — 8 years ago

Soleado Malbec Blend

Plummy and jammy on the nose, and spicy on the pallette. Good tannins, and velvety smooth. Lingering finish of pepper and leather. Dark flavors but a light presence. Surprisingly light, for a red blend of Malbec, C/F and Merlot. — 8 years ago

Amidst the crazy times we are all facing, spaghetti and a little super Tuscan sounds ideal. Fun wine. Bright aromatics. The Sangiovese shines through being a little plummy at this age. Stay healthy, happy and thirsty my friends! — 6 years ago

Clos Saint Jean

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2008

This is a lovely Ch9dP for those who search for élégance and balance and rusticity.
Blood, garrigue, iodine, salty licorice, spicebox, forestfloor and still some plummy fruit remaining. Touch of tangy orange zest bitterness.
Very nice!

Pétrus

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1953

Surprisingly youthful nose of luscious rich plummy baked dark red fruits and the most etheral sous bois and pipe tobacco I've ever smelled. The palate had poise and grace in its age, everything was in fantastic balance. The tannins are shockingly fine, adding the structure that is necessary to hold everything together. Simply superb. I can only hope I show as well as this when I'm nearly 65! — 8 years ago
