Falling for all the first hints of autumn. Tonight, it’s roasted Red Kuri squash and Chassagne-Montrachet. This wine is in a great place, striking its balance between fresh, vibrant acid structure on the palette and seductive toasted hazelnuts, toasted sesame, and red apple spice driving the nose. Marzipan / almond skin, oxidized apples, pastry dough, and green carrot tops are amongst some of the deeper pleasures of the nose of this wine. Delicious!
Perfectly paired with Gillian Welch & Lucinda Williams in the speakers. — 7 years ago
The 2000 Vintage Port was drinking so well, starting to step into maturity with some tertiary fruit notes and a structure that has started to mellow.
Savory and fresh dark red cherry, cassis and plum, a touch of sweet mocha. The nose is very pronounced and seductive, inviting you to sip and seek it's pleasures. The palate is perfectly balanced, good density, balanced, still present but refined and polished tannin, and a long and luxurious finish that lasts for many minutes.
Maybe the best Port of the trip...bought a few back here after I got back. So should you!

Lush black fruit flavors accompanied by lavender spice in the bouquet. This one sneaks up on you with the 15% abv. A modern take on the pleasures of drinking wines from the Cotes due Rhone. — 8 years ago
Soft, silken goodness! Old Rioja is one of my guilty pleasures. Tobacco, leather, medium weight. Age has only partially completed its work... acid/ fruit balance .... tannins are resolving, sharp notes are becoming round and supple. This wine sings with roast pork shoulder. — 5 years ago
Nose has spicy cherry, tanned leather, juiced raspberry-blackberry, cigar box, cocoa nibs, exceptional.
Palate has blackberry reduction, ripe cherry mash, moist leather, cedar shavings, light mocha, nice acidity and dissipating tannins are gentle, long finish.
We've been enjoying these Heredia crianzas for many years, but they do need time to settle in and we're still drinking these too young, but damn they are guilty pleasures.
Decanted 2+hrs, drink now or enjoy over the next 4-6 years without concern.
$22, yes I know that reads like a crazy price, because it is, only patience is required! — 6 years ago
Pancakes and Sauternes.
Two guilty pleasures.
Voluptuous nose on opening, wafting honey, beeswax, glue, apricotpreserve, molasses and that savoury twang I often pick up in mature Sauternes (something shrimpy/bacon-ey). Rounded and sweet in the mid-palate, getting more dry towards the finish which is starting to show a faint metallic note now, suggesting that this wine should be drunk earlier rather than later.
A very very fine example of aged Sauternes, though. — 7 years ago
An amazingly good wine — 8 years ago
Tonight's wine is the 2012 Carmen Gran Reserva Carmenere Apalta Vineyard. I am really getting into these Chilean Carmenere's. I like the richness, smoothness and especially the green notes that really give them character.
The aroma give off wonderful black fruit notes of black plum, black plum, black cherry, black raspberry and black currant.
On the palate we get lots of green bell pepper, and herbaceousness of green peppercorn and then the sour cherry hits with tart raspberries and a good earthiness.
The wine is medium in body with medium + acidity and nice smooth medium tannins. This wine continues on forever that gives you that continued pleasure that makes it all worthwhile.
I will continue to delve into the Chilean Carmenere and enjoy their pleasures.

Who wouldn't want #Blauer #Wildbacher rosé? Zesty summer pleasures @ardorpdx — 9 years ago
A little cool coming out of the cellar. 2 of life’s great pleasures / an aged Margaret River Cabernet and a grass fed Rib Fillet. You would not pick this as 16 years old in a blind tasting. My wife and I traditionally do this exercise and she is usually very close but missed this one by 9 years! Initial herbal bracken aromas with some berry notes still persisting in this warmer year. On the palate savoury yet fleshy berry flavours with M+ intensity finishing with fine powdery Tannins. So lively and fresh I will leave my last one until 2023 for its 20th Birthday. — 6 years ago
It is a beautiful spring day outside drinking this light slightly chilled Rosé from near Marseille. Perfect for enjoying the simple pleasures of spring... a blend of Syrah and Mourvèdre refreshing fruit forward perfect for simple light dishes! Watermelon salad makes a perfect pairing. Love it... price is exceptional. — 7 years ago

I’m getting a real taste for these delicious aged rieslings. This is the second bottle of this vintage I’ve had, and man - it was rocking. It’s in such a perfect place right now. Ripe acidity balanced with the sweetness of honey, caramel apple, brûlée’d peach, kerosene and lilac flower. I’m making a mental note to buy more for the cellar. Despite the wait, these are too good to rob your future self of their pleasures. Yum. — 5 years ago
