02’ - not a huge aromatic nose but pristine presentation of grapefruit zest, white flowers, chalk, and a hint of smoke and spice. The palette feels a bit tired, the acid is medium, though the finish sticks around for a decent time. This seems past its prime, sadly. CVed 1/16/18. A mini vertical of '02-'03-'05 after yesterday's '05. Lightest ruby color of three. Earthy autumn leaves and red brutes on nose. Silky well balanced palate and neon body with good lively texture and complex delicious finish. Better drinking more than the '05. Supposed more feminine and better balance. Wow, opened 2/1/23 and it’s fine! Great with Evan’s Salted Crispy Pork. — 8 years ago

Well on it's way but still needs more time. A little heat on the attack gave way to a smooth, balanced dark fruit profile of bruised plum and macerated sweet black currant with some graphite undertones. The mid-palate was certainly not hollow but the secondary characteristics are just not spilling out like a more mature vintage of the HSS will show at its best (like the '02 I had earlier this year that encompasses all the best of this maker). Hold or audoze for several hours and then decant. Still an exceptional wine that will just keep ascending and evolving. — 9 years ago
