Clos de la Bergerie Savennières Roche aux Moines Chenin Blanc 2014

Okay, so there are haters out there that don’t appreciate Joly’s approach to winemaking and question his vineyard practices. Something about his commitment to biodynamics and not doing his vineyards justice. Well, people are entitled their opinions and if those opinions keep his wines away from some people, that’s okay because it just means more for me. The 2014 Clos de la Bergerie is a wine of tremendous soul. For the uninitiated, it’s going to bend the mind. Visually, it pours an almost alarming, burnished gold color that is slightly turbid. On the nose and the palate, it’s a wonder. Bruised apples, marmalade, honeysuckle, lanolin…whoa. The acid makes the whole thing work so well. This is drinking really well right now but I expect these will drink well over the next 5-10 years…possibly more. These wines really need a crazy amount of air. Like…insane. I really wish I could drink them more often. Unfortunately, I’m not that privileged. — 12 days ago

Bring on the bird! Good structure, stones, enough tannins to cut through the gravy — 6 days ago

Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart Brut Champagne Blend 2006

We love this juice! It’s starting to show some of our favorite bubbly tertiary aromas and flavors - baked apple and quince, dried lemon peel, hazelnut, blanched almond, marzipan - but it undoubtedly had the bones for a longer runway. Still happy to sip it now, albeit partway through its true lifespan!! 🥂🥂🍾🍾 — 11 days ago

Clos de la Coulée de Serrant Savennières Chenin Blanc 2020

Medium gold, the nose explodes with precise aromas of honeysuckle, jasmine, lemon balm, white peach, yellow apple, nectarine, orange zest, pineapple, crushed rocks and a pinch of matcha. Bone dry and full-bodied, with a soft texture and bracing acidity, the 2020 Clos de la Coulée de Serrant from grand master Nicolas Joly closes with a long, lingering finish. This energetic wine is heavily loaded with fruit concentration and complexity, yet it has a striking freshness to it. Spectacular! Drink now until 2050. — a month ago

I was considering opening a 2018 on Saturday. You might have convinced me to go along with that plan next weekend then 😊

Nice! But I can’t say if the 2018 is as approachable as was 2020 today.

La Gille Gigondas Red Rhone Blend 2011

These wines really do change vintage to vintage, but tasting this one 11 years after the vintage was a treat... On the nose, this is strawberry and rhubarb pie, but really that might be better explained as a port nose... On the palate, that stewed up red fruit really feels more integrated than when tasted young... Gone is the punch of power, but replacing it is a stewiness that feels very comforting... Canned cherries, strawberries (maybe even some green pickled ones)... Yup, the more I think about this one, the picked green strawberry note becomes more and more prominent to me... That's what I'm tasting! So good... While I think I still enjoy Gigondas a little younger and more raw, where the tannins fall here has some perfection to it... Not chewy, but satisfying... The finish here is still long, but now more strawberry than cherry when more youthful... Great! — a month ago

Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 1989

En Magnum. Cork came out in 100+ little pieces, but thankfully no cork taint, this shows a little Brett, but other than a mid-shoulder fill level and obvious signs of weepage, pristine redfruits and impeccable balance, everything that the 1989 has been showing for at least 10 years, outstanding!! — 23 days ago

@Severn Goodwin, I do have 3 more magnums, and 10-12 more 5ths of this one, they were cheap and I LOVE Beaucastel. Early on, the 1990 Beau would always best the 1989 Beau blind, but the clear superiority of the 1989!has been evident for the past 10+ years!!
