Winner of the James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge from 680 entries in 2014. See previous Delectable note. Those modern leesy, flinty, struck match and smoky notes have come together nicely at 11 years of age together with nectarine. Delicious - sadly my last bottle - wish I had a few more. Yet another great producer of top quality Chardonnay from Margaret River. — 7 months ago
At my Chardonnay Challenge of 6 wines with very close scores the Heytesbury finished 6th. I still gave it 95 points and a Gold Medal. HH said “powerful grapefruit and citrus - Gingin/Mendoza clones and 97 points “. A semi regular annual purchase for me. Had my 2nd last bottle 31 weeks later on 11th April 2025. Still holding up - delicious, funky and a class act. Still strong citrus and grapefruit and a smoky note. — 8 months ago
Impossible not to like this Margaret River Cabernet from Robert Oatley, a bright, fresh and compact example of the variety with good concentration to the fruit and a satisfying herbal, mineral and tannic edge. This got better with air, showing best on the second night having popped and poured on the first. A wine for early drinking, but an impressive one at that. — 3 years ago
Brilliant silver-straw. Lime zest, honeysuckle, succulent herbs and chalky minerals on the incisive nose. Dry, tightly focused and lithe on the palate, offering intense citrus and orchard fruit flavors that reveal a hint of waxiness and a refreshingly bitter quinine note. Shows a delicate touch and finishes clean, nervy and quite long, with resonating mineral character and a hint of lemon thyme. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, July 2021)

Blackberry, vegetal, herbal, with greenery. Some smokiness on the nose with black licorice. It's great to have an alternative of comparable quality to Napa Cabernet. In terms of $/points this punches way above its weight. To me, this is a very slightly better version of Faust Cab.

Medium bodied, light acidity, a little dry. Bouquet opens up to notes of dark berries, plum, leather, liquorice, tobacco. Well integrated tannins. Pleasant to drink! — 6 months ago
Very similar comments to the 2018. This is in the top echelon of Aussie Chardonnay. Just beautiful! 😍👌🏽👌🏽 — 6 months ago
Couldn’t pick the bay leaves, sorry. 2019, drunk in 2024. Really nice drinking right now, feeling it will be awesome in another few years. Will try and get a case of this vintage. — 8 months ago
2018 vintage. Very fine-grained tannins, good mix of fruit and earthier notes. Fresh blackberry, black cherry, cassis, black plum, decaying leaves, leather, cedar, a little fluffy, yeasty bit I could do without, stale sage, stale allspice. Much more Bordelais than Barossa. — 3 years ago
Stunning Chardonnay with beautiful balance of nuttiness and acidity — 4 years ago
Pale gold. Crisp, smoky, reductive nose. Complex delicate but also assertive on the palate. Pineapple/tropical notes, with an undertow of flint, lemon, and oaky vanilla. A beginning, middle, and end. Super fine, complex, and very long. — 5 years ago
My last bottle of 2015 Woodlands Chloe. Quite restrained - very well made. Everything in balance at 9 years of age. Last bottle we had was in early 2023 - matched with the 2015 Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay and some tasters preferred the 2015 Chloe. White peach. Not too lean, not too full bodied - perfect balance - a “goldilocks” Margaret River Chardonnay. Woodlands is better known for its stellar Cabernet and Cabernet blends but also makes this fine Chardonnay. — 6 months ago
A beautiful top shelf Margaret River Cabernet drinking well at 16 years of age. Deep Ruby in colour. You would never know it was that age from the colour. My 2nd last bottle. A blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Franc. Trademark herbaceous notes with mulberry and spice. 2008 was a hot and dry vintage in Margaret River. Severe winds at flowering drastically reduced the crop to the lowest yet recorded - under 1 tonne per acre. Shelley Anne named after Stuart Watson’s wife. Stuart is the chief winemaker and one of the owners. — 7 months ago
Well balanced with a touch of lemon and lime and a bit of oak. Much more familiar with CA Chards but will definitely revisit Australia again. — a year ago
A cooler expression of cabernet is the usual Margaret River way and this shows all of the minty capsicum it can in balance with currants and red cherry fruit. Barely a trace of oak. Med+ tannin, med/med+ acids add a nice juicy mouthwatering med+ finish. — 3 years ago
Unscrew and pour yesterday. Noted from 24 hrs open. Fantastic PQR. Lovely meyer lemon and soft mango notes, some oak-influenced vanilla, but very stylish. On the palate: lovely acidity, soft slate, good density and a juicy finish. At the garagiste price of about 27 bucks, this is leaning in the case buy direction. Yum. — 3 years ago
Fantastic. Nothing out of place here. Open ripe cassis & blackberry fruit notes with a subtle lick of mint and dried herbs supported by some classy sweet mocha oak. Good to go now with a bright future ahead. — 4 years ago

Somewhat lush and fat up front, plenty of acidity to balance, more depth and complexity than the Xanadu, medium-long finish. — 5 months ago
