Colli Tortonesi Timorasso 2020

Ming L
9.0

Don’t remember the last time I drank a Timorasso, so it was good to get reacquainted with what many wine critics consider the best Italian white variety.
Aromatic nose of apricot, lime, green apple, honeysuckle, and light white floral. Medium to full body with very good texture and sharp acidity. There is a streaking salinity that leads to an intense finish.
I believe this is the only bottling (Moscato aside) from the winery that does not see oak. First vintage is 2019. Derthona is the ancient name for the town Tortona - like Chianti.

Vürsù Vigneto Starderi Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2016

Quite deep ruby , garnet , terracotta rim . Quite a lot of spice , red cherry , balsamic touch with orange rind and , touch of porcini mushroom , dark tea . Quite big and bold with , menthol , dark fruit , quite extracted , drying tannin. Ok finish , with some roasted chestnut character coming through. Needs time, better in 5-10 years and last well a further 7-10. — 5 months ago

Exuding power and beauty at this age. Need another 5-8 years to integrate and to show the graceful side befitting of the label.
From the lesser know commune of Grinzane Cavour, the ‘09 spent 24 months in French oak barrels, 70% new.

Nice, don't see enough La Spinetta posted. We have a few mid-2000 Barbaresco & Baroli. We had a dinner where I sat next to Giorgio Rivetti, he's several barrels of fun!

Biancospino Moscato d'Asti

Very sweet but no syrupy. Medium bodied. Notes of white peach, green apple and white grape. Very enjoyable to drink. — 3 hours ago

Vürsù Vigneto Gallina Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2013

Quite deep ruby , wide terracotta rim . Lighter and more elegant on the nose than the Starderi, porcini , lighter floral and slightly medicinal notes . On the palate rounder generous red fruits , with touch of liquorice , slightly medicinal notes . Quite sweet tannins , and refreshing acidity , good liquorice stained length. This too would benefit from a little more time 3-5 years perhaps , and will last well a further decade — 5 months ago

Cà di Pian Barbera d'Asti Superiore 2020

A rich and powerful Barbera with balance acidity. Oak is prominent but of high quality and well integrated, as one would expect from La Spinetta.
The first red they made back in 1982.
