Mixed pepper, mixed red and black fruit. Was tart to open and then evolved beautifully. This will age! Rated 2016 last night 2018 tonight (feb)... Update, (2nd bottle of 2018, now late may): Those tart aromatics are piercing, rose water, lavender. It’s an intense wine. Medium bodied with light tannins. Very little oak influence. I think the cranberry and subtle white pepper will age and this wine will be nice for a long time. — 5 years ago
Wet stone, creosote, black cherry and a hint of oak permeate this 10 year old Malbec dominant blend. On the pallet, huge tannins still greet you first, followed by intense red fruit (cherry and red plum), aged meat, white pepper and tobacco. This is outrageously good wine. It could still age another 5 years at least (hardly any signs of oxidation so far). — 7 years ago

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cherries, wood, spices, vanilla, tobacco, peppercorn, espresso, chocolates, light earth and herbs.

This is a very tasty Petite Sirah from Lake County. A nice sipping wine that doesn't need food at all. Easy drinking with nice complexity and a soft mouthfeel.
Good right out of the bottle and better with airtime. I gave it a couple of hours in a decanter.
This Single Vineyard is tasty, spicy and interesting. Really enjoyed the nose here.
Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 years.
100% Petite Sirah grapes where grown at 2,200 feet of elevation. Aged in (40% new) French Oak barrels. A small production of only 150 cases.

Black cherry and spice with a chocolate finish — 6 years ago
Dense purple, highly extracted pigment. White pepper, violet, butter, blackberry and black currant notes in nose. Blackberry and coffee flavors, rounded mouthfeel, slight skin astringency and white pepper on finish, minerality throughout. Light bodied, fruity, and approachable, excellent varietal character. Slightly oily, nutty aftertaste emerges after an hour - almond? Barrel wood? A nice touch, but still a solid base wine without it. — 7 years ago
Second tasting. Dense purple red, moderately extracted pigment. Weedy black currant notes in nose. In mouth black currant, butterscotch, mint and later cherry flavors emerges. Seed tannins in finish need time to aerate. Cherry cough syrup aftertaste. 148 cases made. Nice wine, well made, great varietal and local character. — 7 years ago
15’ Montagne Russe Silver and Gold Chardonnay. Holy mother. This is a beast of a wine.
Butterscotch, Banana foster👍, apricots.
Creamy finish with flavors such as caramelized peaches and custard. This wine is not everyone. If you enjoy Rombauer Club Selection Chardonnay $65 .

This 11 year old Israeli Syrah is over the hill now, but still enjoyable by itself or with food. Not balanced anymore, but showing nice complexity.
This Single Vineyard Syrah was good right out of the bottle and died down pretty quickly.

Hawk and Horse Vineyards Red Hills Cabernet Franc 2017, California
Time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a nice Cabernet Franc from California.
Ruby in color with a wide reddish/ brick rim and medium plus intensity.
Strong nose of blackberries, blueberries, black plums, wildflowers, alcohol, spices, cedar, dark chocolates, licorice and peppercorn.
Medium plus in body and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry and fruity on the palate with black currants, blueberries, sweet cherries, cedar, leather, chocolates, tobacco, licorice, peppercorn, spices, alcohol and sweet vinaigrette.
Nice length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.
This four-year-old Cabernet Franc from Lake County in California is drinking very nicely now.
Fruit forward and enjoyable by itself or with food. The nose is very aromatic and flowery. Doesn't drink like a Cabernet Franc, as it not showing any vegetables notes.
Needs time to open up, and I gave it 2 hours in a decanter.
Alcohol is still noticeable, but that will dissipate with time. Would be nice to revisit it in 2 years.
Paired nicely with cheeses, olives and crackers.

Bright dark red. Very pure, varietally accurate aromas of raspberry, smoked meat, black olive tapenade, herbs and minerals. Enters the mouth saline and intense, then strong soil-driven olive tapenade, dark raspberry and smoked meat take over the palate. This concentrated, salty wine boasts impressive thickness but also just enough fresh balancing fruit to leaven its high-pH feel. No shortage of sweetness here. Finishes with a firm dusting of tannins, lingering pepper, meat and smoke notes and no rough edges. (13.6% alcohol) (Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, December 2020) — 5 years ago
I had great experience with their estate Merlot, and this reserve cab is quite impressive as well.
The initially shy nose slowly reveals black and blue berries, cedar, pencil lead, incense, cocoa, and hint of crushed rocks. The slightly ripe palate is round yet delicate, showing its classy with well woven streaking acidity and mellow tannins.

Pontet Canet tasting and dinner with Alfred Tesseron.
The 96 is a nice surprise add from Clyde’s cellar. Thank you Clyde.
This 96 is beautifully floral. The evolution is right around its peak. The body is medium full and the tannins soft. It’s an elegant beauty.
The fruits are ripe and delicious. Leaner blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, strawberries and shades of raspberries. Soft earth; dry top soil, dry rock, limestone minerals, old tobacco, soft leather, cedar with dry and withering red & dark florals. The acidity is like a waterfall. The long finish is well balanced fruit & earth and in a sweet spot.

Inky dense purple in color. Butter, black currant and herb notes in nose with a hint of mint. Sage and blackberry flavors in mouth, blackberry finish with length. Later, cola flavor emerges. Fine grained seed tannins in finish. Nice complexity, a notch above. — 7 years ago
Last bottle, straight off the plane from the Arizona desert - look what I got waiting for me. Inky purple red in color. Dusty, later white pepper, mustard green, cassis and vanilla notes in nose. Slight matchstick. Slight skin astringency on front of tongue, raspberry water, black currant, mustard green and mint in mouth with cherry fruit leather and fine weight seed tannins on finish. Slightly alcoholic. A bouquet of herbs, veggies, weeds and red fruit in your glass, Washington state all the way. Could drink or age further. I'm pairing crackers and black pepper Boursin with this one, but garlic and herb might be better suited. — 8 years ago

Andrew Will’s top selection, I was stunned at how good this was.
This was consumed from bottle over the course of about four hours. Dark purple at the core, with just a touch of red starting to grow around the rim. The first hour this was open, it seemed disjointed as it had a pronounced herbal twang and sawdust note. Hours 2-4 this totally blossomed and became one of the best WA state cabs I’ve ever had, especially at the price. This leans to the dark fruit side of the spectrum (blackberry, black currant) highlighted by streaks of bright/high toned red fruits. Beautiful nose of tobacco, dark chocolate and mocha to go along with the fruit. Mid palate has a beautiful mineral/and scorched black cherry core and finishes with silky tannins. Extremely well balanced and seems like it’s nearing the top of its potential. — 4 years ago
