Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1985

Bright scarlet color, mostly translucent. Red fruit, gravel stone, spice, dark earth, some tobacco and some leather. Fruit is somewhat faded but still present. I think the 85 LB is moving towards being past peak, but still delivers a nice old world experience. — 3 hours ago

Ridge Vineyards

Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1996

Deep tawny color with a scarlet center. Earthy, musty nose. Notes of red and black fruit, moist forest floor, cedar, dark spice and a little menthol. Rounded in the mouth with soft tannins and silky texture. Fruit is present but slightly faded. Good juice but not as good as my last bottle of this. If this was a singular sample size, I would say drink up sooner rather than later. But I suspect this was an outlier. — 24 days ago

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

I have never had a Comtesse before, but I hear it’s supposed to be a bit on the feminine side for a Pauillac. This one is not. Deep cedary, peanutty nose over dark cassis fruit and some pencil lead. Still some vigorous tannin and forceful acids on the palate, but the flavors are very deep. Long finish. Tremendous wine. — 24 days ago

While still quite beautiful it doesn’t possess the color, intensity or complexity it once had. Honestly a bit muted but opens up nicely. I feel like the 82 is still steaming along and the 86 just isn’t quite what it used to be. Nevertheless, it’s a damn good wine to be sure — a month ago

Interesting. Had the 1985, 1986 and 1988 all in the last year and the ‘86 was a monster of wine and so youthful.

@Shay A honestly compared to 85 / 88 I bet 86 did come across as a monster but we opened a few bottles of 86 and I just felt like something was lacking compared to last time I had it

Insignia Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2016

Full bodied, dark and inky. Nice spicy and floral aromas. Very luxurious mouthfeel. Dark fruit, graphite, cardamom, roasted coffee beans. In compartment to other 2016 Napa Cabs I’ve tried of this dignity I would hold on to this a few more years if I could. — 15 days ago

Barbaresco Nebbiolo

This wine paired perfectly with wagyu short ribs that I had smoked all day. In the glass it looks like a light wine, but it’s definitely not light. Well integrated tannins, subtle fruit, and a hint of earth. Really lovely. — 21 days ago

Château Musar

Bekaa Valley Red Blend 2004

Just wow! Blown away by this one. New private wine bar in Dallas had this on the list! Surprised to see this wine. The wine took some time to open up in the glass. I would have decanted this wine for hours if served at home, but not an option last night. Plenty of smiles as this evolved in the glass. Expressive nose, no tannins, nice acidity. Beautiful expressions of dark fruit peeking through, but not enough time to really shine. Still a fabulous bottle that I’m grateful I was able to enjoy with friends. — a month ago

I recommend a decant for at least a couple of hours (or more after testing). For some reason this wine takes time to express itself. Good luck!!
