Hirsch Vineyards

East Ridge Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2022

One of Hirsch’s more rugged bottlings, being on the east ridge. Opened way to early. So much acidity and freshness overwhelmed the darker fruits you could tell sat beneath. Lots of promise. Will wait on the next one. — 8 months ago

Nicely balanced, not too sweet. $30 is good value for a great bottle. Pairs with Indian food like a champ. — 5 years ago

Tart citrus and lifted minerality. Subdued white pepper. Horseradish and cilantro. Medium minus body. Medium plus acidity. Not much of phenolic bitterness. — 8 years ago

Zöbinger Riesling 2019

Blind tasting no2. We all immediately pegged this as old world Riesling. The tell tale signs of petrol and dried apricot gave it away entirely. But we all missed Austria. Probably need to learn more about differences in common Riesling areas.

Clear and bright straw yellow with powerful petrol fumes. Off dry but medium-high acidity with a low-medium body. Dried apricots with some slate completely dominate the flavors. It’s not complex, but has a good finishing length. Riesling for certain. Austria? Wouldn’t know!

That’s what I expect from a good Niederösterreich Riesling. Minerals, acidity, petrol aspects. Like it. Bit more age probably wouldn’t hurt though. Very bright and fresh acidity under it. No particular bouquet though. — 7 years ago

Showing more cherry fruit than I recall a year ago. Still a very pretty and delicate expression of California Pinot. Have two more and I think these can go on for a while. — 8 years ago
