Beaujolais Gamay 2023

Far more than a basic Beaujolais. Seriously structured 2023 with good helpings of fruit, and acidity plus a tad of dusty, mouth coating tannins at the finish. Helluva buy at under $20. — 2 months ago

Dr Pepper. Thinner than the last Beaujolais I had today but still mighty tasty. — 4 months ago

Brouilly Gamay 2021

Very tart, lip - smacking cherry juice. Would be lovely on the deck on a warm summer evening. Alas, it’s 25 and snowing, but nice nonetheless. Takes a little of the chill out of winter. — 5 months ago

Trivia at Aldo Sohm wine bar. Our team lost by one point. This wine won by many points. I blind tasted my staff and they converged around Rhone. Great stuff! — 2 months ago

I knew these need time but don’t remember such disjointedness when young? — 4 months ago

I’ve noticed that, in recent years, many types of wines (particularly from various regions in France) seem blockier and less unified/integrated when young. Like all the components are there, but separated and not vertically integrated. And it seems more pronounced the hotter the growing season that year. I am beginning to think this is a result of global warming. What I don’t yet have a fix on is if time in bottle ultimately integrates these wines. Since I tend to drink wines on the younger side, I’m not sure I’ll ever get to the point where I can make a confident conclusion on that.

Beaujolais Nouveau Gamay 2024

Had it right out of the barrel on the 3rd Thursday in November! Dark ruby red, spice and pepper accents, sweetened over time, paired nicely with a traditional Coq au Vin. — 7 months ago
