Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

A very delicious, smooth, fruity wine. Paired great with steak and a good friend! Though a little pricey for me I would buy this again. — 5 years ago

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1967

Decanted and really opened up in little more than half an hour. 54 years and still has vitality. There’s still some fruit but it is mixed with subtle acidity and soft tannins. A delight to drink and share with friends. Our friend was given the wine and wanted to share it. We all were quite happy.👍🍷🍷 — 5 years ago

Private Reserve Georges de Latour Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

The George De Latour always delivers an exceptional glass of wine! The last bottle we had was in 2012 ( a gift from our good friend Charlie) after a 60 day cleanse and then as now it delivers that special quality we all want from a glass of wine. PERFECT! Anniversary Trip to Palm Springs! — 6 years ago

Delightful to drink. Rich, almost spicy, but in no way overbearing. Given to me by a friend, so I toasted her and her health and good fortune. — 8 years ago

Jean Foillard

Côte du Py Morgon Gamay 2011

This bottle was a lovely gift from our friend Tim who visited Omaha this past Spring. Our only instructions were to enjoy it together with food; challenge accepted! While I have experienced many wines produced by Foillard, this was my first with his “Cote du Py”. The wine pours a deep ruby color; slightly hazy in the glass. On the nose, at least initially, there are signs of some Brett giving a barnyard characteristic but that sort of blows off (or at least becomes less obvious) with cherries, earth, blackened poblano, underripe plum, and purple Sweet Tarts taking a more central role. On the palate, it’s mostly dark cherry and blackberries showing very little in the way of evolution. Medium+ acid, medium- tannin. The finish was super long. I was really impressed how young this wine was coming across; hardly an indication of anything that would indicate ten years of age. Yet more proof that Beaujolais can cellar quite gracefully. We loved how this paired with grilled rack of lamb and a light salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, garbanzo beans, mozzarella and prosciutto. Grazie Tim! — 5 years ago

Silver Oak

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Dark red fruit, faint smell of coffee, leather. Soft tannins. Best friend of my tomahawk ribeye that could have fed a medium sized family. Love the classic style of Silver Oak. — 6 years ago

Château Lagrange

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

I always get cedar from St Julien, so that old familiar friend reappears in this 2014. Silky blackberry and cassis slip through an edge of muscly earth and powerful tannins. Virginia pipe tobacco and graphite. Wicked.

Decanted for 5 hours but id go way longer if you can. 24 would be great.

Apothic

Winemaker's Blend California Zinfandel Blend 2016

I enjoy this red blend more than most and will continue to have a bottle on hand as it makes me happy. Not good enough? See other, longer, reviews if you want adjectives. Alternatively, buy a bottle and try it for yourself and share with a friend at a party. It’s a fan favorite for-a-reason. And that reason doesn’t have the word “berry” or “legs” or “mocha” — 8 years ago

Still hanging in there! Such a treat! Thank you to my generous friend John Slattery.! Roasted peanuts, dark soft plummy fruit. Nice acidity. Tannin totally resolved. A little minerally on the lively finish. — 8 years ago

Château Gruaud Larose

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2008

Nothing like a good bottle of claret after a long hike w/friend. Dont seem to think was a good vintage but w/a good maker—-drinking nicely now. Black currants, cassis, gritty tannins, acidic lift but all integrated. Decant/ pour carefully — 8 years ago

Cristal Brut Champagne 1996

Pop n pour - a treat from a friend before we head out. My first experience with this vintage. Nice mousse and color. Notes of toast and bread yeast, some citrus and stone. Not as vibrant as an 02 I last had, which is not surprising. And not as energetic as other 96 vintages I’ve had in the last year. Am told this was bought in release and stored in perfect conditions. Supports a premise that Cristal might need to be drunk within 20 years of the vintage. — 5 years ago

Tenuta San Guido

‘96 and ‘99 side by side. A real treat from a good friend. Similar fruit and flavor profile though the ‘99 had a bit more weight and structure. Both were a pleasure with dinner. — 7 years ago

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

I was not blessed with the greatest birth vintage for Bordeaux (1991), but luckily my dear friend fared better (1989). Red currant, raspberry coulis, cedar, and graphite - the wine is still so fleshy, round and clean, nowhere near as tertiary as I'd expected going into the evening. It's structured, but also rather open knit after a quick decant. I hope to taste this Latour again in the coming years - as I believe it has many stories yet to tell. A special wine shared with even better company - there are worse ways to spend a Tuesday night. — 8 years ago

Orin Swift Cellars

Abstract Grenache Blend

History of OFC dates back to 1995 when on a lark, David Swift Phinney took a friend up on an offer and went to Florence, Italy to spend a semester “studying”. During that time, he was introduced to wine, how it was made, and got hooked. A Grenache, Syrah and Petite Sirah blend. Aromas of fresh ripe red fruits with sweet spice. On the palate flavors of ripe cherry, cacao and espresso notes with sweet savory tannins, well balanced on lingering finish ending with toasty oak and sweet fruit. — 8 years ago
