1995 Dom. Laurent NSG Les Vaucrains - The wine is showing beautifully. Still a bunch of primary notes, harmoniously integrated with some secondary tones. — 10 years ago

Next up is Volnay. Village-level from Giroud. This bottle makes me amazed at how the color of wine from the same grape can vary so much between nearby villages. This wine is bright red (like diluted oxygenized blood) and although the nose is full of typical PN notes of warm strawberries and raspberries, some forest and stable aromas, and new oak - it has de/light/ful freshness and flowery perfumed scent and aftertaste. Tannins are silky and small and acid level skyhigh and fresh. Perhaps a little too much oak for my taste but a very nice experience. The wine complemented quite well the assortment of italian sausages and kaltbach cheese. Freddy Kempf -- on a long Steinway sounding off Busoni's arrangement of Bach's Chaconne -- tied the knot of a perfect cellar moment. Cheers! — 10 years ago
Give this one a little time. But it may be THE (or one of certainly) benchmark wines for the appellation. — 10 years ago
Sarah had no idea what I'd poured. "This is really good was her rxn." Yea, it is. #special — 11 years ago
Phenomenal. A deep, concentrated cab franc with excellent structure. Drinks really well now with air, has at least 7+ years of evolution to go. Dark berries, mulberries and blackberries, lavender, cocoa, classic Loire bell pepper, leather, wet rock. Superb. — 5 years ago
Nose has smokey dry earth, dry lavender, old licorice, dried black cherry, ripe black currant, dried blackberry and (light) dried oak.
Palate has silky dried blackberry, ripe plum, black currant jam, (light) dark chocolate, dried blueberry and light tannins. Mouth coating texture. Future bottles should be 2023+
50% Grenache & 50% Mourvédre
Paired with a bottom round beef roast, slow cooked 8+ hours with autumn root vegetables and the au jus from the roast, thickened with a little of my own tomato paste, delicious. — 6 years ago
