Helfer Vineyard Chardonnay 2020

I can see why this wine is so highly rated. Lemon curd, floral and citrus notes in very subtle elegant style make it both unusual and very pleasant. They say the densely planted vines and hand cultivation generates more concentrated fruit vs typical CA spacing. Unfined and unfiltered gives it some nice texture but not overly so. Would never guess this is from the RRV. $45 CT91 made just 130 cases. — 9 days ago

En magnum. WotN. Standing above giants. Nose of post-hike sweatshirt and posies flower garden. Unreal mid-palate, funneled finish. 25 years, no sulfur. — 24 days ago

Over the hill. Not undrinkable, but not as intended. Tough to describe and better with food.

Revising up it’s getting better or I’m assimilating to it. Might need like a 3hr decant :)

Would lean towards the decant and the 55-60 degree range to maximize.

Last bottle — opened for an old friend and like the PN alongside, this was a stunner, nearly flawless. Intact cork, bunch of sediment, and after only half hour in the decanter it was game time. Had PN and this alongside gorgeous ribeye — 25 days ago

Spoken from first hand experience, Scherrer’s are one of the few good Zinfandel bets for extended aging into very special wine. Good young too.

last bottle and it was the best — ever!

opened for an old friend and after battling a broken cork and decanting, it ended up absolutely pristine, darn near flawless. A testament to Fred Scherrer

Meursault Chardonnay 2021

2021 vintage. Part of a portfolio tasting through 25 white/red Burgs. Some aggressive, frontal oak that mellows out a bit as it goes down. Medium/medium-heavy body. For village swill, this covers the bases quite nicely. 9.29.25 — a month ago
