Domaine Dugat Py

Bernard Dugat-Py

Coeur de Roy Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir 2009

Medium deep garnet, ruby core with medium light garnet rim . This is quite meaty and deep on the nose , with earthy dark cherry , porcini , sweet blackberry and spiced sous bois . On the palate this is quite severe and serious , darker fruits , ripe blackberry , cherry and hint of blackcurrant, herbal hints. Quite gritty , slightly drying tannins , fresh acidity . Earthy , dusty dark cherry edged finish , ok medium length. Quite ambitious for a village and arguably not ready yet , tannins need a little more time to integrate. From now and over the next 5 years, if not longer . — 7 days ago

@Andrew Cullimore i’m still sitting on my ‘ 05’s from this producer. Stylistically not everyone’s cup of tea..

Yes , I would agree with you there @Ira Schwartz , and no it’s not my preferred style , but it is certainly a well made wine . Based on my experience with 2005 in general , you will probably need to leave your Dugat Py’s another decade !

Côte du Py Morgon Gamay

This wine is a mouthful. Just exploded in the mouth of minerals, iron, cherry/ raspberry and some dusty tannins to close. Keeps evolving. Prob should have decanted it from the start. — 11 days ago

Côte du Py Morgon Gamay 2022

🍷Cheers to this compelling Morgon crafted by one of the region’s luminaries!✨

We’re talking about the ‘Côte du Py’ Morgon (Gamay Noir) by the revered Jean Foillard.

This Gamay hails from Morgon – a “Cru” within the broader appellation of Beaujolais – with a reputation for producing structured & age-worthy wine.

👁️ This wine is medium ruby in color, like a gemstone with the delicate haze you’d expect from an unfiltered wine.

👃 The aromas & flavors are perfumed with ripe red and black cherry, wild strawberry, blueberry, pomegranate, blood orange, mulberry, rosehips, hibiscus, lilac, black tea, rooibos, black licorice, star anise, potting soil, gunflint, & clove.

👄 On the palate, it’s dry with vibrant acidity, warming alcohol, a medium body, fine, ripe tannins, followed by a persistent finish.

In sum, this is a captivating, soulful, & expressive wine; a beautiful representation of Morgon, so deliciously drinkable now, with its layers of lush fruit, florals, & spice, while demurely holding the spine, structure, & intensity to age…

I can imagine it gaining mushroom, earthy, leather, & cured meat dimensions with time.

It offers power and elegance; a wine to sip, savor, & appreciate.

Drinking beautifully. Still lots of time left. Very young and need med to open up prior to drinking. — 5 months ago

Côte du Py Morgon Gamay 2022

A second great bottle of this. Never had this producer before this wine, but definitely will be on my radar going forward. Everything you want in a BoJo: fruit, granite, energy, depth, drinkability, balance. — 12 days ago

It's a cuvée which punches above its price point consistently, year in year out. For reference, it's possible to find it for less than 20 euro at wineshops all around France. Great stuff 👍
