Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2018 “Désirée” (which gets to hold this designation due to historical precedence) pours a straw color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of bright tropical fruit, lemon, slivered almond, warm spices and limestone minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ with a lovely texture. Textbook Meursault and more importantly, tasty stuff. Drink now through 2033. — 7 months ago

Got my first shot of the Biontech/Pfizer vaccine today, time to celebrate. After recently trying the surprisingly good 2007 I have turned to the 2008. JS rated this 100 points and others have it 98+. For me it’s not quite there yet, but it might get there in a few more years or who knows in a few hours after this gets more air. This is such a typical Comtes, such an unmistakable character that lets the Chardonnay shine. The balance of citrus and fruit flavors is amazing and lingers in the mouth forever. Definitely one of the greatest years for the Comtes, perhaps indeed the best yet. I look forward to storing the remaining bottles for a few more years. — 5 years ago

2006 vintage. Cork easy to extract. A rusty rosé color. Slightly dirty/earthy with light-medium body and still plenty of acidity to shepherd the proceedings along in a timely manner. Wanted to drink this after listening to Dominique’s IDTT interview. Found the best nationally priced bottle in Pasadena and it showed really nicely, particularly after being open for something like 4 hours. I like his winemaking approach here, which doesn’t seem to be about elevating it beyond its provenance. It’s a delicious, mineral wine that would crush with shellfish and was lovely in the afternoon along with The Trip to Spain. — 9 years ago
