Tart apple, white flower. Clean, crisp limestone like finish.
Interesting wine. Definitely not Meursault-like, blind I would have went chassagne. I might be a bit low on the rating, often I need a couple of tries on wines like this that taste different than expectation of location. At Hestia — 2 years ago

2002/7/16 with katsuo with.m negi ponzu, fried kinu tofu and amazu Yamagata dashi, aji karaage, etc. I have a soft spot for this domaine and this wine I particular, as my wife and I loved it so much back in the mid-2000s - it was bright, juicy and crunchy but with sneaky depth. I cellared a few bottles, of which this was the last - and considering that the domaine was bought in 2007, there haven’t been any more for a long time. The second-to-last bottle was nice, but felt a bit stretched...but that wasn’t the case here. The nose shifted through game, bruised flowers, undergrowth, and cherry syrup fruit. The palate was led by firm acidity, but that crunchy fruit was still there. This really was quite multidimensional, and while it might be hard to imagine it improving much in the aggregate, it still let you dream. Not a bad way to go out. — 2 years ago

Fatter, rounder and less mineral than Hameau de Blagny across the road. Vines are less stressed as they can get water deep down — 5 years ago
Wow! — 4 years ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed over a 90 minute period. The 2019 “La Pièce sous le Bois” pours a glossy ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, well…the nose is gorgeous, if not downright sexy. Freshly picked, perfectly ripened strawberries, porchini, forest floor and gentle warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and voluptuous. This is very well-made. The fruit is such a star it’s almost as if this could have been from Santa Cruz Mountains. Drinking well now and has the ability to be enjoyed through 2029. — 5 months ago
