La Combe de Malleval Condrieu Viognier 2011

2011. This wine sits heavy and rich on the tongue. Stone fruit, floral, and a little oak. Paired great with sesame crusted tuna steak, 5-spice roasted sweet potatoes, and smashed cucumbers. — 9 months ago

Vieilles Vignes La Combe Brûlée Vosne-Romanée Pinot Noir 2013

Pop and pour yesterday, notes from 24 hrs open, unrefrigerated on the counter. Sweet, sweet burgundian perfume: vosne spice, pomegranate, wild strawberry, soft herbal notes...On the palate: fantastic acidity, lovely density; more pomegranate, soft grapeseed notes, still very primary, but soft tannin on the delicate finish...Stunning. — 3 years ago

Sexy fucking wine. Sexy is overused but I’d get in a hastily planned 3 month relationship with this wine that would end in bitter heartbreak. Gorgeous nose. Flowers, big cherries, lipstick vibe. Palate is ripe and opulent with lovely sucrosity and wonderful freshness. Silky tannins and great mouthfeel. Very 15 but also very alluring. Long finish. Wonderful mineral drive and very complex. Great today. — 5 years ago

Was not supposed to age for 2 extra years, but wow I’d this still fresh. Some great herbs, strawberry, artichoke, parts of this have herbs found in a good Italian bitters. Maybe gentian? I love it. So good with food. What a unique wine. — 9 months ago

Such an interesting wine. So unexpected terroir mineral balance with pineapple pear fruit. Top notch! Tasted great with Santa Barbara uni, ikura, Toro and negi-hamachi! — 4 years ago

Young and fresh even with a bit of green on the nose, but it starts to put on weight after about 10-15mins. Great value wine. — 5 years ago

— 5 years ago

L'Eveil du Loup 2015

Rose, cranberry, lavender, redcurrant, plum on the nose with a beautiful hint of effervescence on the palate and similar delicate red flavors, finishing with textural complexity and bright acid. Lovely with a slight chill and beautiful pairing with calf liver and duck frites. Here we come summer friendly reds! — 6 years ago

Round yet fresh with bright acidity and fresh fruit. A whiff of spicy vanilla adds character to the ripe orchard apples and lemon peel. A delicious, if uncomplicated, start to the Christmas festivities. — 4 years ago

Cuvee Combe D'Enfer Côtes du Rhône Villages Chusclan Red Rhone Blend 2015

Nose is black cherry, plum, thyme, lavender, black pepper, and a touch of smoke. Pretty complex and inviting.

Palate opens with those black cherry/kirsch notes and then transitions to dried green herbs and medium acidity. Tannins are smooth and lend just enough dryness to keep it balanced. Good length with lingering plum skin.

Great little Rhone red with delicious approachable fruit and some nice spice subtlety. Where others at this price point (€11!) are austere or overly simple, this one delivers on deliciousness and complexity. The overall structure makes it quite drinkable too.

La Combe Bourgogne Chardonnay 2015

At the Solace in Encinitas, CA. Really nice white Burgundy by the glass. Nutty aromatics and Meyer Lemon. Quite bold and fun for a proprietor to offer this by the glass a rare opportunity to taste a Chard from a Micro-producer in France. Perfect with raw fish Oysters or just any seafood. — 6 years ago
