Rancho la Vina Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015

Perfect cherry-filled SRH PN. Smoke blows off over the years from my previous rating. Quintessential SRH terrier show of diurnal shifting cool cloud coverage and hot sun baked afternoons. Vibrancy and brightness shows through strong and young but more complex. Well-balanced. Bright acidity across the finish. Lovely! — 3 months ago

Yves Boyer-Martenot

Les Perrières Meursault 1er Cru Chardonnay 2013

Lovely terrier driven mineral nose with hints a hazelnut laced with lemon peel and Fuji apple fruit. Palate is missing a touch of intensity but mineral and citrus flavors. Thoroughly enjoyable but seeking a bit more complexity. — 3 years ago

Getting there. Missing a hip of acidity. Overall a great price/quality wine. — 4 years ago

Hunter Hill

Estate Santa Cruz Mountain Pinot Noir 2014

Such a delicate varietal to be grown so perfectly in such an unforgiving terrier. Simply put this Pinot is damn near perfect — 4 years ago

Caruso & Minini

Terre Siciliane Perricone

Barely breaking the top 20 of grape varieties found in Sicily (also the only place Perricone is found to my knowledge), single variety Perricone isn’t exactly available in abundance, which is a shame because it’s a juicy delight. Tart black cherry is the dominant note. Also black currant, licorice, blueberries, violet with a touch of dried herbs / medicinal / savory quality on the back palate. Medium bodied. Well integrated tannins. Ebullient. Organically farmed. Terrier approved. — 6 months ago

Cave de Rasteau

Ortas Tradition Rasteau Red Rhone Blend 2015

Well blended and easy to drink, best paired with food due to the higher alcohol content, but presents a complex flavor profile reflective of its old vine terrier. — 4 years ago

Vieilles Vignes Saint-Veran Chardonnay 2017

Sandwiched between Mâconnais and Beaujolais, St-Véran is truly making some lovely whites at exceptional QPR. Here’s a perfect example. (I matched the chard with a baked Alaskan salmon...baked fennel...and a side of harvest grains. I’m one lucky old fart.) — a year ago

Robert Mondavi Winery

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1986

Dear friends of ours, a couple so delightful in spirit that they adopt aged, abandoned dogs, clean them up and make sure they have the most sublime last few years of their lives, invited us over to visit their latest pooch. Their newly rescued fourteen year old terrier, Audrey, was looking vibrant with glossy coat and waggy tail. A far cry from the dusty critter from the shelter's photograph.

Audrey wasn't the only aging beauty that our friends shared with us that evening. They very kindly opened this 1986 Robert Mondavi. Despite its age, at thirty two the wine retained a good deal of freshness with focused aromatics. High toned fruit, dried leaves and subtle leather combine on the palate and evolve through the long finish. Like Audrey, my tail was wagging.
