La Closerie Fac-simile Extra Brut Pinot Meunier Rosé Champagne

Not sure if anyone’s noticed, but lately, my tasting notes here have been a little scarce. Not for lack of tasting - trust me, the bottles have been opened, the glasses filled, and my palate put to work. But so many have been uninspiring, fleeting, forgotten before the last sip. And then, boom! A bottle like this.

Popped in the morning, savored through the evening. Great at first, but by dinner, it had truly unfurled. The nose? Cherries, plums, warm spices, rose hips, pink peppercorn, chalk, and orange zest, with a whisper of apricot. The palate? Plush yet precise, broad yet focused. Biscuity richness and an electric minerality. A saline, vinous, full-bodied stunner that lingers impossibly long.

This just reaffirms what I think about this wine - one of the best pink expressions from Champagne, period.

NB: In my mind (and admittedly, limited experience), the best champagne rosé’s include:

Selosse Rosé - haven’t had it in ages, but many bottles had in the past have brought great joy.

Bouchard Enfer - honestly, my sample size is too small, but both times were really impressive; though it must be noted that my company then thought it was more intellectual than pleasurable (too phenolic and soft).

Bereche Remensis - best value rosé? Consistently delicious and complex.

I have heard from friends that the DP P2 and P3 rosé’s deserve to be high on any list. Hope to try them one day.

@Aaron Tan have noticed…and been there. Of the rosés you listed, I have only had the Bérêche and I would agree.

@Jay Kline I love the Remensis! Hope the prices remain modest. A friend added Doyard’s Oeil de Perdrix, which I’ve yet to try.

@Aaron Tan I have some Doyard in the cellar but not the “Œil de Perdrix”. Interestingly, I’ve had Jean Vesselle’s “Œil de Perdrix” in the last month and it was wonderful. But not on the same level as Remensis

Impérial Brut Champagne Rosé

Waited a year to open this bottle in celebration of my wife and I’s wedding anniversary. Raspberry, strawberry, tart, smooth, yet slightly acidic. Might be biased due to the occasion, but this bottle is really amazing! Happy anniversary to my beautiful bride ❤️ — 8 months ago

Grand Vintage Brut Champagne Rosé Blend 2006

#AgedWineTuesday

Dark copper in color.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity, and small bubbles.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity and a soft mouth feel.

Showing raspberries, lemons, apples, cherries, brioche, light earth, herbs, light yeast and white pepper.

Long finish with tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious Rosé Champagne with some nice age. This 19-year-old is drinking beautifully now. Elegant and rich with tiny bubbles.

A little tight right out of the bottle, and needs time to show the complexity, especially on the nose. Easy drinking and needs 30 minutes in the decanter to open up properly.

Drinking at its peak now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 to 10 years.

Wine Spectator 93 points. Wine Advocate 94 points.

Good by itself or with food. I enjoyed it with black caviar.

A blend of 47% Pinot Noir, 33% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier. Disgorged in 2013.

12.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$130.

Les Vignes De Vrigny 1er Cru Brut Pinot Meunier Champagne

Reinforced my obsession with Pinot Meunière…. Almonds, fresh brioche, ripe pear and a hint of (banana?). Balance is impressive and not an acid-monster. My only negative is how the price keeps climbing. Happy turkey day y’all. — 5 months ago

Château La Croix St. Georges

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Vintage 2009 | This is a Pomerol with a certain strictness. We tasted it blind next to a left bank wine but the tasters did not recognize this as a right bank wine. It seems to be made for the long haul, with clear tannines even after 15 years. Good integrated wood with a light vanilla impression. — 8 months ago
