Mindego Ridge Pinot Noir 2022

Delicious. The usual Santa Cruz Mtn forest floor. But very feminine and light. Great roast chicken pairing — a year ago

Trout Gulch Vineyard Chardonnay 2021

Trout Gulch chard from the vineyard owners. Unmistakeable and a fraction of the cost or A-R or Ceritas. Solid. — 2 years ago

TBH Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2022

TBH is a new vineyard from Senastapool. The wine was well made but did not have the citrus and tropicals as the others. — 2 years ago

Bailhache Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Bright shiny new SB from the crew at Ceritas. Nice acid/fruit balance, low ABV, medium-weight…plenty of citrus, straw, and unripe melon and a long, almost reductive finish. Very tart lemon notes, but marvelous with home baked Sockeye and local yellow string beans. Very young… I think the wine will settle-down a bit with age and pick-up a bit more “gravitas”. Glad to have a half dozen to experiment with over the next few months of local MI summer produce. — 4 years ago

Touriga Nacional Rosé 2015

Okay... probably a year past it’s drinking prime, but still fun and full of pleasure. I love these wines when they’re young and vibrant...my third favorite domestic rose behind L’Aventure and Ceritas. This one got lost but still gotta appreciate its cut at 5 years out! Not much fruit left, but nice savory funk notes. — 5 years ago

Paratus My. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

This is the Paratus, not Martin Ray. Drinking way too early but who cares. Gave it a 4 hrs decant. Light handed, subtle cab. Some gorgeous notes on the nose. A few more years to mellow out the acid will do this wonders — a year ago

Ceritas

Trout Gulch Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019

It’s all about the fruit here. A surprisingly light body, pale edges with deep ruby color, a nose of beautiful rose and candied hibiscus, with delicate, silky tannins, tart cherry with beautiful acidity and a delicate finish of raspberry and dry minerality that lingers long into the night. — 4 years ago

Done & Done Talley Rincon Vineyard Chardonnay 2019

9.3

I’m between a 92-93 here. Rounding up due to potential.

A producer I’ve had a few times over the years that for some reason I didn’t explore, even though I always quite enjoyed them (chards and Pinots alike). I picked up a few random bottles from the winery to explore more, and was told to start with the offering as it’s easily accessible.

Down the middle style when it comes to Cali chard. Coastal (bright, sea spray, crystalline), but ripe (beautiful juicy orchard fruits). In the background there is a sweet lemon flair. Aromatics and palate match up, though it had some flinty reduction notes to blow off when opening. Profile wise, I’d say this is more soft and rounded than Ceritas, but not as powerful or bold as Aubert/Marcassin.
