Cellier De La Comtesse

Grand Cellier 1er Cru Champagne Blend

9.3

I have really come to embrace this producer since my October 22 visit to the property. Beautiful champagne that is generally fermented in neutral small & large barrels/vats.

Starts w/ lemon, pineapple, lime, kiwi, white stone fruits, green apple, touch of tangerine & grapefruit w/ light sprinkle of sugar, cream, light white spice, crushed limestone w/ chalk, sea fossils, saline, light yeastiness, bread dough, sprinkle of dry herbs, spring flowers, jasmine, spring flowers & a touch of yellow lilies, nice crisp acidity with a structured backbone, nice tension, very well balanced and an elegant polished finish that lasts just under 90 seconds.

Freaking delicious. Pretty straightforward blend but makes you fall in love with grapes all over again. 🍇 Approved. — 2 months ago

Château de Montfaucon

Comtesse Madeleine de Montfaucon Côtes du Rhône Clairette 2018

Lovely floral and mineral aromas and flavors from these super old Clairette vines in Lirac (I’ve walked this vineyard, and they are old head-pruned, super-gnarled, vines), this vintage has aged beautifully and is still not at peak, outstanding!! — 9 days ago

Pauillac de Pichon Lalande Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

9.5

Are there many/any better Pauillac second growths?

2003 a ripe, warm vintage.

Soften medium plus tannins. It’s Bordeaux lush, ruby; blackberries, black raspberries, black plum that leans into pudding, dark cherries, ripe strawberries, hues of purple & blue fruits. Dark spice w/ palate heat, nutmeg, clove , cinnamon notes, mid berry cola, some black licorice, vanillin, dark, rich forest floor with a touch of dry leaves, lead pencil shavings, dry tobacco, sandalwood to cedar, 1/2 used leather, limestone, dry, crushed rocks, dry river stone, dry herbs, dry to moist, grey, volcanic clay, fresh & withering dark, red flowers, framed in lavender & liquid violets, excellent acidity with excellent; tension, structure, balance and elegant finish that goes on and on.

First wine w/ an Allen Brothers Ribcap.

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Réserve de la Comtesse Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

At first: yeasty and spicy tones, shoe polish, dried herbs. Then, after a few minutes: grilled pepper, open knit, balanced, ecoline paint, earthy, licorice, bacon, very complex. Love it. — 23 days ago

Domaine Joblot

Clos du Cellier Aux Moines Givry 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2021

Light bodied without being a pushover. Bright fruit, almost a bit green like unripened strawberries with a constant bitter note throughout - like unsweetened cacao nibs — a month ago
