Valenti Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015

Phil Baxter is the man. Always pure, clean, transparent winemaking. I prefer the Oppenlander vineyard but this is delicious. 6-7 years seems a sweet spot for these AV PNs. — 5 months ago

Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2014

Young and bit aggressive, but you can tell that this will soften in a few years. The fruit is very evident but not overwhelmingly sweet. I think it will ease. This is a young wine in a great vintage. Oh, Baxter is fired up for a Friday. — 6 years ago

Tasted blind I’d never have guessed Nebbiolo or even an Italian variety. That said, it was delightful. — 6 months ago

Langley Vieyard Pinot Noir 2014

Founded in 2002 by father son duo Phil L Baxter and Phil T G Baxter, Baxter Winery produces a range of Pinot Noirs from several of the Anderson Valley's top sites. Juicy and red fruited, with flavors of red currant, raspberry liqueur, their Langley Vineyard Pinot swiftly turns to more medicinal tones - wilted sage and tarragon. It's elegant and nuanced, but with precision and drive. — 5 years ago

Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc 2016

I’ve had the hardest time remembering my new zip code even despite having written it a thousand times in the last few weeks... maybe I’m still dreaming... anyway...

It was still 90° at 7:30 so I went in search of Sauvignon Blanc. Sunshine Foods is the local grocery and has exactly the surprisingly very good selection that should be expected from a specialty local grocer in the heart of Napa Valley. I’m not going to lie, I bought this wine so that I would finally learn my zip code (even if I did let somebody ahead of me at checkout so I could finish researching it).

The winemaker is Sam Baxter of Terra Valentine and it’s sourced from the San Mateo Ranch Vineyard in Rutherford. At $19 that was good enough for me. Loaded with ripe pear and fresh, almost underripe melon, lime zest, and stony minerality, with just a tinge of honeysuckle that softens the corners. The acid is relatively toned down but still present enough to satisfy most purists.
