Monte Bernardi

Retromarcia Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2020

100% Sangiovese grapes, from vineyards consisting of shale (Galestro) 70%, sandstone (Arenaria-Calcare-Pietraforte) 20%, limestone (Alberese) 10%. Deep Ruby with aromas of red and black fruits with sweet spice and earthy floral notes. On the palate flavors of black cherry, blackberry and currants with tobacco, licorice and vanilla, adding pepper spice. Fine vivid tannins, medium+ finish, well balanced with acidity, ending with fruit and earthy mineral character. Nice! — 8 days ago

Bodegas Riojanas

Monte Real Reserva Rioja Tempranillo 2018

I’m not a Tempranillo guy, but this is pretty good. Nose has sweet cherry, vanilla extract, a little pencil lead, and an interesting earthiness that reminds me of wet clay. Balanced and nicely concentrated in the mouth, it’s got a good balance of red berry fruit and uncharred oak, along with a Medoc-like cooling leafiness. Tannins are quite soft, but the finish is a tad short. — a month ago

Bocca Di Lupo Castel del Monte Aglianico 2002

Powerful Aglianico, but aged enough to smooth out all of the tannins. Strong flavors of leather and earth. Strong leather nose. This wine would be perfect with steak. — 2 months ago

Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2002

45 min decant(decent chunky/fine sediment). A remarkable medium garnet color with bricking. On the nose: beautiful perfumed notes burst from the glass with sour cherry, mint, dusty earth, currants, wet cedar, green bell pepper....could sniff all night! Taste: soft and round, smooth, elegant wine with raspberry, cedar, currants, musky earth, and a nice dark chocolate cherry finish. YUM! A wine that has hit its stride over the past few years with time to go. — 17 hours ago

Estate Monte Bello Vineyard Chardonnay 2020

Touch of oak. Good bit of acidity. Little hot and alcoholic. Not bad. Lacking creaminess and some fruit that my favorite Cali Chardonnay has. — 2 months ago

Ridge Vineyards

Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 1973

Tasted blind. Dark and opaque color. Notes of black cherry, stone/gravel, wood. Powerful in the mouth with great acidity. Long finish. There's a slight brettiness in this that always lingers but is not too distracting. A long debate ensued about what this could be. Mostly guesses are in the old world. The feminine nature of this leads me to go with a 59 Margaux guess. Nice wine, limited in rating because of the slight taint. — a month ago

Monte Antico

Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2012

Blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Deep ruby color with garnet highlights. Big aromas of black cherry, leather, violets and black licorice. Ripe red fruit fills the pallet with just a touch of vanilla. Soft tannins and silky texture. Long finish and bright acidity. Good value. Thank You Chris B! — 20 days ago
